    Hi,

I live in Portugal-Europe and I have add a M5N for the last 2 years now. I love the notebook but the fan noise has always irritated me.

I have been throw the forum and came across some fan mod that Justin invented.

Since I live across the Atlantic and sending in my fan is a bit difficult, is it possible for someone to describe the mod so I can try it on my notebook.

    Thanks

What about Speedfan? Have you tried using that to control the fan speed?

It's probably a lot less hassle to use software...

Yup, have used it. But it doesnt work very well. It shuts down the fan and that isnt the best solution.

I didn't invent it... really........ but I was bright enough to take a fan out of an S5 (it has half as many blades and therefore pushes less CFM but at the same time, that creates less noise (and less cooling keep in mind)....... but it's basically something you can screw into your M5 as the space for the fans are the same size.....

Oh ok. Do you sell S5 fans?? What about Z33A fans?? Do they fit also, and do you have them.

P.S. - I just sent a mail do your sales department. I have a friend going to the US on Thursday and coming back on the 27th. Can you have a laptop ready in time if I pay for it today by bank transfer? Its for my girlfriend. Please help me

    Thanks

We have parts..... I don't know if those are in, but we can always get them if they're not.... you'd have to talk to sales about that.. if they feel they can do it, then they can do it..... but that means the system would have to leave here on friday the 23rd to get anywhere 2Day -- by the 27th..... and they won't build your system until a bank transfer is complete....... I'd say probably not a great idea, but if you're really just getting a barebone, if you can get the wire here, they can help you out.

Instead of shutting the fan down with SPeedfan, what you can do is to set the desired TEMP in the fan properties. In the other words with speedfan you can set for example if your lappy on 40c - 50c set the fan to 1500 RPM and when it is for example 65c++ set it to 3000 RPM

hav u tried this method ??

if not well try the mod :)

    Solving M5N (M5000) fan noice.

SpeedFan 4.26 + Centrino Hardware Control 1.9 are doing they job nicely. My M5N (M5000) now nicely quiet most of the time :)

Setup steps (WARNING! do it ON YOUR OWN RISK!):
    0. Disable that lousy ASUS gadget thing.

    1. install Centrino Hardware Control 1.9, switch it to "dynamic switching mode". On Settings click "Enable Autostart", "Show CPU Clock" and unclick "Autoupdates".

    2. install SpeedFan 4.26, press Configure:

2.1 on "Temperatures" set your desired CPU temperature (45C), select Speed01. Select the same option for Local (42C) & HDD (40C). Select warning temperatures as well (mine is set for 54C for CPU).

2.2 on "Speeds" select minimum & maximum speeds for Speed01 (mine are set 20 / 35, fan will start on 100% anyway after reaching warning temperature). Select Automatically variated.

2.3 on "Advanced" select "ADT7463 on Intel SMBus", set "PWM 1 mode" - Manually controlled. And also set "Reverse PWM01 logic" to ON. (you also can play with PWMOUT1 clock)

2.4 on "Events" create temperature notification events if you like.

2.5 save settings. Try changing fan speed using "Speed01" control of the main window. It should change nicely 0-100%. Fan1 RMP (and noice) should change accordinaly 0-3200RMP.
    Select "Automatic fan speed".

    3. Test your system. Normally the CPU should work on 600Mhz and temperature should stay about 42C. No fan noice ;). You could listen MP3 / DVD, work with office apps or browse internet like that. In case of high CPU load it should switch to 1.7 GHz and fan _should_ start whining.

WARNING. DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK. Be carefull not to burn your ASUS. It's not that bad than tuned ;)

Hey Justin - are you aware of any "baby" fans that will fit W2V? ;)
