i was just wondering if anyone hav purchased a M5N wit the 6-cell extened battery just about how much weight does it add on?? i tried lookin at the asus website, but i can't find anywhere that says how much does the 6-cell batt weighs around. also, hows the balance of the laptop after puttin on the extended batt? since its an ultra-light laptop, i thought there would b some problems in that area

if possible, if n e one got some pics of the laptop wit the extended batt, it will b greatly appreciated if i can see those pictures

    thanks a lot !

This sounds like a job for geared2play or PROportable [ ;)]

First of all, the 6 cell battery was never and will never be offered in the US. The US office made that known this time last year. The reason for that there wasn't enough of a weight, battery life, price range between the 3 batteries.

The 9 cell will add about a pound to the over all system weight (with the 3 cell in it). So the 6 cell would be inbetween there.

If you're in Europe of Asia you may be able to get your hands on the 6 cell but it's not not worth bringing it here.

    thanks justin

ok...so how much would it cost in cdn to buy the 9 cell batt then? and when i was lookin at asus's website, they say wit the standard batt its about 2 hrs batt life, wat kind of config is that to hav 2 hours batt life? cuz one of my frd is using one and his can last for only about 1.5 hr and dats it

The 9 cell in Canada should cost about... 110-150 dollars depending on where you are I believe.
The 9 cell should last you rougly 7-8 hours (?)..I could be wrong.
Battery life varies depending on CPU/computer usage... e.g. screen brightness, hard drive activity, CD-ROM activity...etc. If you have the brightness very low and do nothing but word process and surf, you SHOULD be getting ~2 hours of battery life if you're running with Speedstep.

Let me give you some idea of what I've seen in the last year...

    3 cell --- 9 cell

    1.5 / 40gb/4200rpm - 2:30 --- 7:30

    1.7 / 60gb/5400rpm - 2:00 --- 6:00

    2.0 / 60gb/7200rpm - 1:00 --- 3:00

Now, these are average numbers under normal use. You can probably subtract 15 minutes off of each 3 cell (and 45 minutes off the 9 cell) if you're really working the system hard.

    Just to chime in here...

I got my 9-cell about a week ago and totally love it, definitely a nice add-on to the M5np and it is sill lighter than most 12" lappys out there which is great--it does "fit on" a little odd, being that it sticks out, but overall not that bad.

I get just under 7hrs out of it in the lowest power saving mode (the "running guy" for those who use the Asus power prog). If I switch to "max" I get about 4 hours and some change.

    That's on a 1.6ghz/7200RPM (60gb) system.

BTW, use pricegrabber.com to find the lowest price--got mine for $98 or so with shipping (that price was the exception, not the rule though)

Well, yeah, it is... You're clocking the cpu down to 600mhz and using a pretty dim lcd. Althought you're always running that hard drive at 7200rpm, that much of a drop in cpu should give you that life. But as you an imagine, if I told people with a 1.6ghz and 7200 rpm drive, they would get 7 hours out of the 9 cell and about 2:20 out of the 3 cell.... I'd have some pissed off people on my hands because we always have to talk about "normal/average" use or my fav... the lowest life I've ever seen with maxed out settings... This is always to let people know, they'll never see less that that even if they were to max the system out.

Many people with S5's who close the cpu and lcd down can get up past 8 hours on that 9 cell..... you can't do much more than AIM, email, internet with those settings...... However, I know as much as everyone loves power, most people don't do much more than that with a 12" notebook.

    Kit25...

Funny thing, I actually took a bunch of pics with the extended battery for a friend so that is easy enough...

now, how do I post 'em on here? I don't have a site to host 'em on but I know there are some free ones out there...any suggestions?

nbreview is/was short for notebookreview, e.g. what we are on right now. [ ;)]

I got the message and sent you the email...had to get home first hence the delay.
