    Hi,

I recently got an M5Np barebone notebook, and have been experiencing the following strange problem. When my machine goes to STR standby long enough, for some reason it suddenly wakes itself up, and freezes with the LCD off. I have to force a power off, remove and reinstall the battery (sometimes not required), and then power on to recover.

I tried the 0212A BIOS, doesn't seem to solve the problem. Otherwise, everything works well.

    Thanks in advance!

Hmmm...dare I say it could be Windows? I had an inital problem with my M5np and Windowx XP where everytmie I plugged in and removed the plug (AC) while Windows was on (or even in standby) I got a BSOD--I finally just re-installed and it works fine.

You may...if you don't get any other advice..have to do the same thing. Please note that if you do, there is a small "reset" button on the bottom of the lappy--insert a paper clip and hit the little button then re-install (that may also help with your crashes instead of removing the battery).

I assume you are using all the latest drivers from the Asus website and have all the Windows updates as well...

Are you using XP Pro? If you're using Home edition, you're very likely to run into that problem..

Also, has it been happening since you got it, or did it just start? Because if it just started that's obviously something that might have gone wrong with the software.

Just some places to start looking.

    Thanks,
    Justin

I'm using XP Pro SP2. It's been like that from day one, since last last week when I got it.
