M6000 Cooling Fan Problem

Please help!

I own an M6000 notebook and the cooling fan has stopped operating. Looking at ASUS Probe it says the fan is off but the fan status is OK. The CPU temperature climbs to about 105 degrees so I'm shutting it down to prevent damage. It seems to me that the fan isn't OK. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, the Manual states that the Notebook will shutdown if the temperature reaches a maximum limit, does anyone know what the maximum limit is and if it is safe to run up to that limit?

Can the problem be software-related? Have you installed recently ACPI management software like Everest, SpeedFan etc.? If so, try removing those.

Otherwise, try reinstalling the ACPI drivers from the driver CD or the support website from scratch and see if that solves your problem.

If not, it's likely a hardware fault... replace your fan.

I don't know what the temperature limit is, it might vary with the type of CPU. About being safe to reach that, well probably it's safe if it happens a few times, but it's certainly not a normal condition and the CPU is not designed to consistently take that kind of temperature...

 

Well, the area between the fan and the heat pipe's radiator is an area that fills with dust to the point that the fan gets over worked and doesn't actually cool. If it got to the point where it over worked and died, you'll need another one. I wish I could say that it would be something we'd have, but the fans changed on that series and I don't think we have any that go back that far.. but it doesn't mean we can't get them or you couldn't get them.

I'd open up the area - need to take out the keybaord and keyboard cover and the heatpipe off the cpu..... but check to see how direct the fan is and turn the system on when you can see the fan running... make sure it's not moving.

There are two screws under the system marked with a "K>" - remove those

Above the keyboard there are three spring clips that must be moved back to allow the keybaord to pop up. These are above the "Esc", "F8", and "Del" keys.

Then there are two little screws in the keyboard cover. This is the area the power button sits on - remove those

With a screw driver or something else to pry with, pry up on the left or right side where you see the top cover part butt up against the lower half. Put some pressure into it - you won't ruin it. Once that's popped up, the cpu and fan are to the right. There's a little metal support piece for the keyboard... that slides to the left and then pulls out.

Remove the four screws on the cpu's heatsink and then yank that out of there.
