My girlfriend has an M6B00A and it's been randomly turning off sometimes.

She's not sure, but thinks it may only be when the AC adaptor is plugged in.

I opened up ASUS probe to find it sitting on 80C and when I opened up anything much it would go up to 90C. Playing Rollercoaster Tycoon (a rather old (but cool)) game, it sometimes hit 95C.

That seems a bit high to me, and perhaps the source of random turning off?

EDIT: I *think* this model may be called the Z70A in the US???

    Very, VERY strange.

Your temperature readings are for the CPU? or GPU?

If this is the CPU reading and it does shutdown once in a while off AC power then I am 100% positive it is overheating.

Tell her to go back to where she bought it and ask them to check it out. Hopefully it is still under warranty and they can fix it.

If the warranty is done, I suggest finding the manual on this site that takes you through taking apart your gf's notebook and just apply some thermal paste to the GPU and CPU and heatsink where needed.

If you can, try to find some Arctic Silver Ceramic. I suggest this over the Arctic Silver 5 because it is NON-conductive, so even if you get some on some component you don't have to worry about shorting anything out.

This Ceramic also performs just as well as the Arctic Silver 5.

    Anymore questions just ask,

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Thanks Shampoo,

It's under warranty for a long while yet, so that will cover it.

Just did a couple more tests:

On Max Battery mode, Temp sits at 40C on idle, then goes up to 90 under full load.

AC: On Super Performance, it sits at 70-75 under no load and goes up to 95 under full load.

Sounds like we need to pop it into the service centre.

Yes, sounds like you need to service it.

It should hit 70-75(max), under full load for a 2.00ghz Pentium-M with 1.3v core.

Glad it's still under warranty, good luck with that~!

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Is your fan working????
if so then maybe as shampoo said some new thermal grease and a reseating of the heatsink is all thats needed....but get the asus guys to do this for you.
But since it hits 90 on max battery im guessing the fan is either broken or malfunctioning....maybe there is alot of dust blocking the airvents too.
but a service might be the best fix.

    :)

Fan is working to some extent, makes noise and moves some air out the side vent (though not that much).

Will take it in to get serviced.

    Thanks guys.
