I have read that the Asus M6BNE/M6NE had a battery problem in which the battery was loose. The way people fixed the problem was by contacting Asus and Asus sending them a piece of plasic to attach to the battery.

I want to know if this problem is now fixed or if Asus is putting plastic on the battery to fix it (which is kind of half as*ed).

If im spending 1600 on a laptop I dont want it's battery to be loose or have it rigged with a piece of plastic just so it's battery doesn't loose connection.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

OK, first off... you're talking about $1,600 like it's a lot of money for a system.....

Anyway, there wasn't so much a problem with the system or the quality as it was just about a centimeter off... The battery was tight, just not tight enough in some models made this summer. I haven't seen that problem in quite some time and only heard about it on maybe 3 of our systems.

I hope you mean millimeter....centermeter is a huge amount to be off by. lol

I also have only heard of one or two reports of this. It has never really featured much in this forum, thus from that you can assume that it was a rare problem at ASUS, probably why that had a doggy fix for it, and I think you can safely say that your M6N will be as well built if not better than anything else in that price range.

whoops... my bad... millimeter.. if even that much.

The fix sounds worse than it is.

The problem was that the latch needed more pressure on it.... So the area where the latch attaches on the battery needed to be thicker in order to make it tighter. So, since the area that needed the adjustment was maybe (1/8" x 1/32") and it only needed to be about (1/125" thick) .... their solution was really good actually.

Once it was in place, you'd never see it or be bothered by it again. I know some people who did it just to make their battery fit that much tighter. What amazed me was that was actually how they fixed the problem....... pretty good idea when you think about it.

Thank you both for your quick response. I was worried about this problem, but it seems it is no longer an issue. Thanks again!

My asus M6BNe has recently been heating up (in the upper right area right outside the touchpad and below the keyboard) when I play games or any other demanding softwares (bitTorrent,...); runs normally when I do wordprocessing.

Also, it's been making louder noises and on top the the buzzing sound I've become used to, it's making a screeching kind of sound too.

Until recently, I was able to run both FFXI/WoW and BitTorrent without the laptop overheating or hearing the screeching sound.

Does anyone know which part of the laptop is "faulty"? Is it the RAM, graphics card, HDD, CPU or something else?

If it's to the left of the touchpad, it's the hard drive. If you have a 7200rpm drive, it could be normal depending on the stress you're putting on it.

If it's to the right of the touchpad, it's your optical drive...

Either way, scratching and buzzing shouldn't be occurring. If you're dropped the notebook, you could have damaged either of the two.. Both are fragile and even a hard bump could screw them up.

I have a question regarding the screen. I was looking at the Asus website and it says "15.4” WXGA (M6BNe) 256K Color Max." The screen can only show 256k colors and not 16M?

I'm hoping it's a typo, but if not, will that even be an issue? I'm intending to be playing games on the system.

    Thanks for any input.

    Thanks Justin.
I got another question. Would you suggest that I replace the HDD ASAP (i started hearing the noises about a month ago) or would it last for another year or so assuming I'm still putting the same amount of stress (emule/BT and games running at the same time).

    OnARock,
My current display is at 1280X800 @ 32bit color. I did have a recent issue regarding a patch (for the Asus M6BNe ATI 9700) I downloaded from "Windows Update" that restricted me to 800X600 and 256 colors so, I kept the old drivers and didn't upgrade to the newer ones available on microsoft's website.

The screen will display all the colours and is of good quality, the 256K is/has been discussed quite abit, there is a good explaination some where in this forum, its a case of ASUS being "too correct" and clever which has lead to confusion, but in the end the screens will show 16M colours. So no need to worry there.

As for the Hdd, its covered by warranty so don't replace it your self, get it for free! But first you will need to check that it really is buggered, often the funny noises could be due to file corruption but your drive may still be fine/healthy. Check out who the manf. for the drive is and go to their website and download their drive testing utility. If your really concerned then a low level format using this tool should get rid of any file corruption and return your drive it orginal state....NB: low level formatting will get rid of EVERYTHING, and delete partions etc etc. It writes "0" to every sector of the drive. I just did this to my HDD and my brothers desktop, as they were both playing up/making weird clicking noises and reporting file corruption, although the drive itself passed all of the manf. tests, and appeared healthy.
Its now running smoothly again no probs for a month, touch wood.
I believe that windowsXP is the main culprit for the file corruption not ASUS/Hdd manf, there are plent of others (ie windowsXP users) out there with similar probs, so your not alone.

    Good luck

Actually, it's on the upper LEFT of my touchpad and not upper right as I said earlier. [:I]

Now that you mention it, I've been having some weird error reports (something about Intel and a crapload of Hexadecimals) that would only go away after I reboot the laptop.

well in the upper left of the touchpad or of the whole computer?

Because in the upper left above the keyboard, there is a vent for the cpu.

Left and above the touchpad really isn't anything.. but you could still be feeling hard drive heat.

    Thanks,
