I came to the decision last night that I am going to buy and build this.
I have a few questions tho.

    1. Does this come with the wireless intell 2200 already installed or do I need to get that extra.

    2) Does this include an optical device or is that also an extra buy

    thanks for the help

I think im going to go with the 1.6 2mb l2 cache Dothan, just want to make sure that this one will work, the website said it was the low voltage cpu.

It will come with a battery, but you have to get the Intel Pro 2200 and Optical drive extra...
Dothan works fine.. I'm running the Dothan 1.5 Ghz.

I actually decided on the 1.7ghz intel p-m 735 today, i 0rodered that along with KINGSTON VALUERAM 512MB 333MHZ NON-ECC DDR SODIMM and the toshiba 5400 60gb I was going to get the 7200 but not for twice the price :p

So all im mising is the case, optical and the wireless. :) 2 more weeks and ill have the money to buy it all i hope :D

I opted for the CD-R/DVD combo drive... I didn't see a point in getting such an expensive DVD-R. FOr that price, I could purchase a faster DVD-R for my desktop...
I might've purchased it if this laptop served as a desktop replacement, but I'm using this for school[ :D]

    Sounds like a great computer.
I don't really think the 7200 RPM drive is worth it at the moment... they don't perform much better than the 5400 drives, and produce a little more heat...

What I like about this computer not coming with an optical drive is that .. if you want, you can take out the optical drive out and put on the traveller's drawer(what it comes with originally). It makes the laptop a little lighter if you're going to be travelling and not using the optical drive...[ :)]

Did you opt for the cd-r or the dvd-r i was thinking about the dvd-r but i have one in my pc already, im thinking its not worth it on the laptop since i cant do disk to disk copies anyways ;)

Did you find it easy to put together, or was it difficult. I know i when i built my pc it was one of the more simple things i have had to do.

I have never put together a notebook before... although I'm eager to learn.
Putting PCs together is simple.. but notebooks are a bit different. Since I didn't want to screw things up by LEARNING... I asked the store to put it together for me. I figured the 40 bucks would prove safe...

I have that EXACT same problem.
My fan doesn't turn on until my CPU reaches 75 degrees... and the bottom of my notebook gets really hot when I charge the battery.
I assume that's either for intaking cooler air... or perhaps it's just a vent for the battery?
Indeed the 15.1" M6Ne runs hot hot hot...

yeah i want the cpu fan to turn on so the vent can suck up cool air and cool my hd... bummer. The cpu fan is very quiet, so i wouldnt mind having it run the whole time. Then i can actually place it on my lap without it burning me.

also.. do you know what the new bios does? asus website doesnt say a thing about the new bios.

Hi everybody. I got the m6ne with 15 inch screen not too long ago, and i have some questions. Is there a way to turn the cpu fan on sooner? What is the vent under the keyboard for? My 7200 rpm hard drive makes the bottom of the laptop hot. Any advice would be appreciated.

I actually e-mailed them regarding the heat/CPU fan issue.. they say that it's normal for this notebook or something along those lines.

I'm not sure what the new BIOS does... but the BIOS screen looks cooler. I figure new BIOSes must fix SOMETHING.. so I flashed it anyway.
At least it hasn't made anything worse...

I was running BIOS 203 before, just flashed to 205 yesterday. I had a problem where after I closed the lid, the CPU fan turned on full speed - 4000rpm - and then never turned itself off. It got my CPU nice and cold, but I couldn't stand the noise. With 205 this problem seems to have gone away.

Odd... it seems as if each ASUS notebook has its own heat/cooling issues

Good to know that as soon as I get this up and running I'm going to need to flash it to the 205 bios. [)]

Is flashing the bios with that windows utility easy?

Hi, I have been having problems with the powergear button lately. When you press the powergear button, it changes the mode and cpu speed. But recently my cpu speed has been awfully low. When its in super performance, it runs at 600mhz when it used to say 1.6ghz. It goes down to 158mhz sometimes... This is very strange. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You may have had an old version of power4gear. They come out with updates all the time. The faster your hdd is the hotter the bottom will get but they will never overheat. The 203 bios was full of issues. 204 and 205 got rid of all the issues. All notebooks since about 3 months ago have the 204 or the 205. If you just bought a notebook and it got 203 on it then the notebooks has a shelf life of atleast a few months which means your warranty is only 8 months. In that case send it back.

Where can i get the updated powergear software? I dont remember installing the powergear software, it just somehow installed when i was installing the drivers for the laptop after installing windows. Where can i locate the powergear software that is included with the laptop? Thanks.

Also, does anyone elses keyboard buttons wear down pretty fast? The buttons that i use often are shiny and smoother than when it was new. These buttons dont last that long. [xx(]
