Well, had my M6B for about 6 months so far and zero problems.

Power up my notebook today to see 0% charge, think thats wierd because its most of the time in a certain place and most of the time plugged into the ac adapter. So I check AC adapter, its fine, took battary out and put it back in, still no go. Checked AC Adapter and there is no holes or anything, when I plug the power in none of the lights on the laptop come on at all to shop it charging. It still boots but turns off after 10 seconds or so cause 0 juice in the battary.

What should I do? The local store that sells asus battaries and AC Adapters does not take returns, Im thinking its the AC but if it isnt I cant return it at all.

    Anyone else have problems?

Im in Canada if that helps at all.

    Please help!

The stem in the hole for the ac adapter on the computer.... can you put something in there and move it around at all? If so... that may be the problem and may or may not be a big problem..... If thats the case, depending on where it broke depends on if it can be fixed or if you need an whole new motherboard. I suggest looking there first.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Also make sure you check the power bar, make sure the "mickey mouse" shaped piece is properly fitted into the bar. Check also for any damage to the place where you plug in your ac adapter, its a common problem i know with other models of laptops. Usually its the ac jack thats screwed up and for some units this can be fixed by just replacing that piece without touching the motherboard, i wouldnt know how exactly the piece is on the m6 though sadly. Proportable would know though :).

I guess the first step is actually to make sure the power brick is lighting up and making sure that has power.

I see the stem inside on the motherboard breaking off every now and then.... I'd say 95% of the time it's caused by people who hang the ac cord off a desk and let the brick hang in the air (putting extra stress on the connection itself).

SOMETIMES... it can be fixed.... more times than not, the motherboard has to get replaced. Usually..... it's not covered under warranty as it would be physically damaged... but if it just turned out that something with the element on the motherboard just so happened... burned out... then it would actually be covered by the warranty and you'd be good as new with now cost to you at all. The problem with that is, the system has to be torn apart most of the time just to find out. So if it's a physical damage type thing, you'll already be into some labor costs before you can even decide whether you can afford a new board or to see what your other options are.... It's not just something you can look at and give a good quote on, lets put it that way.

    Thanks,
    Justin

    Thanks for the info guys.

Checked the power tip on the laptop and its fine, no dirt and its not broken at all.

I dont ever have the power cord brick hanging in the air, thats just a dumb thing to do.

Is the power brick on the AC Power Cord Supposed to have a light lit? I cannot remember if it did before, right now no light goes on it at all.

Thinking clearly there is no problem with the battery because I took it out and still no go.

Futureshop sells a universal one for 150 canadian, So Ill buy that try it if it works take it back and buy the regular Asus one from Dealer for 60 Canadian.

If thats not the problem, Asus better fix it under warrenty cause I didnt physically damage anything, that I know of.

    :(

Hey dont forget if the adapter went bad and the machines still under warranty even if it shows a bit of wear or a bit of damage seems they usually dont mind replacing the adapter at no cost since it is cheap in comparison to other parts (LCD, mobo etc...). Well at least thats the usual case ive seen with dell and compaqs!

right.. an ac adapter can take some wear and tear... but it just looks like something may have shorted out... no big deal.

Yah, no big deal even If I have to buy a new one for 60 bucks, things happen.

But even if the ac adapter is not plugged into the laptop but plugged into the wall the green light should still be lit?

right... just plugging it into the wall will power the brick and turn on that light.

My suggestion is to pick up another adapter anyway (great for a spare or to leave one at work, etc) ... but then have Asus replace the broken one.... then you're not waiting on them to replace it ASAP.

yeh basically if your light doesnt light up on the adapter with just power cord then your adapter is dead, if your laptop is still under warranty asus will replace the adapter.

Also asus does replace your motherboard if the ac socket in the laptop is broken, they won't say its physical damage.

I have a similar problem. I plug the Ac adapter in and it charges the battery normally without any problems. Now after it is fully charged and I keep the AC plugged in without touching the plug at all, after half a day the battery starts to decrease. It says its charging in windows but the led is not turned on and the battery eventually dies if I dont take out the plug and plug it in again...

    Anyone have this problem?
