Hi i've had my M6n for like 1,5 years now. I discovered a problem with my firewire port when i bought a new camera, it was broken. I send the laptop to ASUS and it got fixed. At least after a while it started freezing up. i send it back expecting a connector to be loose but i got it back twice now and it keeps doing it.

Then i started thinking again i remembered noticing the problems after installation of NORTON systemworks premier. after 6 restarts i was able to remove norton and no freezing !!

my question does it freeze because of NORTON or is it my RAM since NORTON uses a lot and i now only have XP installed no programs and less load on my RAM ??

    please help ??

Not only does the M6N hate Norton, but so do I. Especially Systemworks, its a major resource hog. You're better off without it. Even with the default settings you'll have a million things running & take a lifetime just to boot up.

NSW is a huge hog, I have reloaded my M6 a number of times now and pre-post NSW there is a huge dent in speed. But I have used that program for years now and am yet to see a review of another program which is any better. Thus better the devil you know in my case....and ghost has made my life alot easier. There is a know issue with NSW sometimes failing to stay activated upon re-start not sure if this has happend to u or not. Also if your concerned about your memory, try stressing the pc, super pi or looping 3dmark etc should be enough to bring out any issues....Other than that sometime the registry just gets badly outta whack and the best solution is to format and re-install.

I did 4 reinstalls Asus reinstalled 3 new motherboards new LCD new HD new 1394 port all this in 3 returns to asus. the problem accurs in a clean XP install after systemworks install. so it seems to be that. I'll try stressing the PC as you suggest.

I agree, Norton Internet Security came with a free trial on my W2, so I gave it a try again. Not only is it a true system hog, but also the security sucks. Kicked it from the sytem again.......

I don't think NSW or any Symantec software is really THAT effective...
I no longer use Norton and use only Avast antivirus now; no more firewalls... no point, really, since I have an effective router.

    You're better off without Norton.
