Well, it's not too often that I post about a PROBLEM with my M6Ne... but here goes.
I'm not exactly sure how long I've noticed it... but for some reason, this problem just really stood out today. The right side of my M6Ne LCD is not tight... or the hinge may be loose/broken; either way, it's making me unhappy and I want to fix it.
Here are some pictures to show you what I mean:

Notice how the silver trim doesn't line up flush against the charcoal. Is there an easy fix to this? I'm hesitant to open it up and detach the LCD from the unit...

First.... try to push that back in and get it to snap...... Next, if that doesn't work, take out the rubber stopper on that side... a screw hides under it...... see if the screw is stripped...... that'll tell you whether or not you just need a new bezel or a new lid.
-
I've tried pushing it in... didn't want anything to break... but i did push quite hard: No snap.
How would I go about removing the rubber stopper? just sort of pry it out? -
UPDATE... wow, thanks a lot Justin. I just removed the rubber stopper and it turned out the screw was VERY loose! I tightened it... and it sits flush now. Not only that, but some of the screen wobble has gone away too! Still wobbly, but noticbly tighter...
Again, thanks a lot Justin -

Yeah.... you're welcome...... I've found that some of these screens that people say "get loose" is really just the screw coming loose which is what tightens down the screen to the hinge... if you let it go too long you'll break the lid! I think the loctite on those screws just isn't good enough.

It could have easily been a repaired screen. I mean i have never seen one of these screws come out unless they were loose to begin with. Its posible but if it was screwed on tight it really should not come out. If you ever sent it in to asus for screen repair i have seen them "forget" to put the finishing touch on their repairs as is common to almost all repair centers.
-
I've never sent it to them for a repair...although I should have; I could have gotten it replaced since it has two stuck pixels...(and the reseller I purchased it from had a 30 day no stuck pixel guarantee)
But i decided not to... I can live with them -

Eddie - You may never have seen it, but we've been selling the M6 series since before you even sold Asus..... the screws come loose over time..... the opening and closing of the lid is putting force on the hinges and therefore the screws... a constant up and down motion like you would get from opening and closing the screen... over time... will work those screws loose. It's the main reason they use loctite to begin with, but it's a "common issue"..... the reason we hear about people with M6's having this issue is becasue the M6 was probably the first really popular Asus model and it's certainly been the most popular since it's release.... so a lot of people have them.
No doubt you'd seen the cases where people broke their lid on an M6...... it's hard to break this chassis, but if the screw is loose you're putting much more stress on the joint than you normally would be... and crack....... it's a common thing and has nothing to do with Asus or anyone else servicing it.... -

Actually i have been selling the m6n since its inception starting from the original m6n then m6ne. It has not been out that long. Still less then 2 years. Sold and rma's enough of them over the years to say that i have never seen the screen get loose. Perhaps i am lucky not to run into it.

I had seen a few back with broken lcd,s. All resulted from physical damage. Had never seen the pastic carbon it self break. Even the broken ones had their screws tight. Have seen what aurora described in the pics but only after the clips were not clippen on tight or after the notebook was banged up. aurora was this always there or did this happen recently?

Yes, we shipped out first M6n just before thanksgiving of 2003...... so we're just coming up on two years......... You'll have to trust me when I saw those screws can come loose and that's what's caused a majority of the problems..... even though only a few people have any problems at all...... over the last two years I know that I've seen 3-4 of these myself, maybe twice that have come in that I didn't see..... and that's just us...... but I've seen it on the forums as well..... most of the time the bezel cracks... the bezel is just plastic anyway... and isn't really there for any structure.... the screw some times pulls through that and then there's no way to screw the bezel down.....
Either way.. it's few and far between.... but I'd suggest to anyone who thinks their lid is loose.... check out those screws and just make sure. It's certainly won't hurt. -
To be honest, I don't really know when I started to notice it... but I know that it's been AT LEAST a few months. I just didn't care to do anything about it...
but yesterday, for some reason, it looked REALLY off and just...not right so I started to get worried. Plus, the extreme screen wobble bothered me... and to add even more problems, the screen would sometimes flicker when I moved the screen back and forth.
But after tighening the screw... I feel much more tension in the screen hinge and it feels, well, how it should feel I suppose. Nice and tightNot as much screen wobbling anymore...yay

Right.. that's what was causing it... I'd check the other side and make sure everything all tightened up.

There should then be a second screw on that bracket that is still loose if the ,metal mounting bracket is the same as the z70. That should be loose as well. Well that sucks. Maybee some people are just not reporting it or not even noticing.

Right.. there is another, but that one can't get as loose because the bezel is sitting in front of it...... I've certainly seen both get loose but I think the inside screw can only get loose once the outside screw is loose and there is room between the bezel and the hinge...... It's sort of an odd issue, but if you keep those outside screws tight, it'll stay good.
-
Hmm...that "inside screw"... I assume I'd have to detach the entire LCD from the system to access it?
It wouldn't hurt to take a look I guess... -

.... no you'd actually just have to remove the bezel which is held on with 4 screws and a bunch of connections like the one you reattached the other day.
-
Hmm...alright.
I'll do that right now...
UPDATE: Well, that was a tough process... taking off the bezel is a lot harder than one would think. The top of the bezel was a breeze... the bottom part near the hinge is the tricky part; I think I cracked the inner part of the bottom bezel...good thing you can't see it.
On a side note... I think another reason why the edge of the bezel didn't line up was because one of those snapping "connecters" was broken; as I opened it up, there were tiny plastic pieces that I removed... and it appeared different from the left side of the notebook. The inside screws themselves appeared to be on tight though... so in the end, I just put the bezel back on and tightened the screws as tight as possible.
The hinges are very nice and tight now... to be honest, I don't think the screen has EVER been this tight; I love it.
M6Ne LCD edge... fixable problem?
