You should try 0206... I found that 0206 was similar to 0205, but a little better.
I'm at school right now so I don't have 0205 or 0206...but when I get home, I can send it to you. -
It would be VERY nice from you to send it to me! I'll try 0206 if youthik I should.
thank you very much, I'll be waiting news from you...
-
Yeah.. I still have two classes to go. I'll send it to you in about 4 hours... I'm sure you can wait that long
-
What was the difference in the two bios? What was fixed in 206 vs 205?
-
Very little, to be honest...
the ONLY difference I noticed was the temperature threshold; 0206 turns the fan on 5 degrees before 0205 will... (75 degrees vs 80 degrees)
The beauty with it is... the computer will seldom ever get that hot if undervolted... (undervolting keeps the CPU at ~50 degrees) so 95% of the time, you will have a SILENT notebook. -
MAybe you right but mine runs @ 45-50 almost all the time when I'm surfin. The weird thing is tha my cpu IS undurvolted to .7 volt @ 600mhz! I installed grease instead of the old thermal paste. The REALLY weird thing is that my cpu runs almost to 90-95 when playing 1.8 GHZ @ 1.08 volt...
But you know what? I don't really mind as long as the CPU does'nt burn!I know what is really a 90 C cpu and I'm pretty sure mine is'nt at this temps... I flashed to 0208 because I saw a new bios but have made a mistake. Before, the fan starts at about 75 C but now, i don't really understand why but seems to starts randomly near 40 and CANT stop runnin. I'ts driving me crazy! I bought this laptop 2 weeks ago for a destop replacement because my ol shuttle sn95g5 was making to much noise. Now I sit directly on a airplane ready to take of. Ohhhhhh my!
what a shame ... despereatly need the 0206 or good old 0205 bios!
And what is frustrating is that the air comming out from that lil b###h is'nt hot at all! ****... anyway a cpu is made to run hot... and I don't care if the life of my cpu is shortened of 10 years, I can live with a 70 year cpu... anyway in MAX 3-4 years, i'll be trashed...
sorry for my bad english, i'm from quebec... the french province!
****! just started my laptop and 45C the fan is kickin in! **** it! -
Yeah... the newer BIOSes aren't so great... but if you use the notebook on your lap, you'll be thankful you have the 0208 BIOS.
If you use it on the table all the time... 0205 or 0206 are the best ones to use. The bottoms get pretty hot... -
Thanks you very much aurora!
Now I can finally hear myself thinking!
thanks! -
Wait 208 is only for the M6Ne, I see the M6Va has 206A, and the Z70Va has 206G.
I thought the M6Va was the same as the Z70Va. Someone care to explain? -
They are the same, Mike.
I believe that the difference between those two BIOSes... is an Asus splash screen upon boot up.
The Z70Va probably has a black screen with a Centrino logo in the bottom right corner... maybe in the middle.
The M6Va BIOS will have an Asus logo in the middle and a Centrino logo on the bottom right.
I'm 99% sure you can flash the BIOSes of each of those machines on the other one without any harm (E.g. right now, I'm using the W3A bios on my Z63a) -
I love it when I can answer questions about the M6Ne... simply because I've tampered with mine so much that I'm almost an expert -
So that's the difference, the bootup screen logo?
After having my notebook serviced the 2nd time, I got it back with the Asus slash screen. I love it
Still haven't received my unit back from them for the 3rd time in the shop. -
Well I have something interesting to report.
I got my baby back from the shop in great condition, everything fixed, except keyboard, oh well, they replaced the motherboard b/c of a bad videocard, that I had no idea about. Yay.
The interesting thing is that I checked the bios and it says 207. I read about this in some other forums as well and I guess they just loaded me up with the latest ones. Grrrrrrrrrrrreat~!
I wonder if I'll notice anything with these new bios, like fan speeds and such things.
I'll let you guys know.
Cheers,
Mike -
AuroraS.. can you please explain why the 0205 and 0206 are the best?.
When I originally bought my lappy, it had the 0205.. but I didn't like the temps I was getting. I had mid to high 60's.. with almost no load.. and high 70's and 80's under heavy load. 0206 did not improve matters and 0207 it was just too noisy (fans never shutting down). With 0208 my lappy stays at an average of 45 C. Again, I just wanted clarification on why the 0208 is not considered the best.
C. -
Well, from my experience...
0205 - turns the fan on at 75 degrees, off at 70
0206 - turns the fan on at 70 degrees, off at 65
0207 - sporadic fan behaviour... turns the fan on ~45 degrees... but is much too noisy.
0208 - somewhat sporadic. It's quiet most of the time... but once the fan comes on, it'll come on for a while... spin down... then spin up real fast again. Then it will continue to loop like this until you shut the notebook off... and thus, it's somewhat noisy.
Overall, 0208 and 0206 seemed to work best for me... 0206 being the obvious choice for silent computing, and 0208 being the choice for lower temps. -
I confirm that. 0206 seems to be the best! and really silent.
-
I know my stuff -
Hahaha, yes you do know your stuff AuroraS. The bios you listed are for the M6Bne right? I wonder which one has the best fan speed levels for the Z70Va.
The 207 bios seems okay to me so far. Haven't had too much time with my notebook yet because I got really drunk yesterday night with a few friends I hadn't seen in a while and I was out of commission for most of the day today. I hate hangovers. -
Be careful. I know the Z70va has a newer chipset revision than even the z70v, let alone the much dated M6bne (which I think is a Montara platform, not Sonoma). However, there is a 207, it's just not on the website. Asus' FTP has it. The fan speed for the z70va with 207 seems to be the same as 206. The fan is off until the CPU hits 60. It then slowly speeds up. At around 70 deg, it becomes somewhat noticable if the room is very quiet.

Yeup, I'm pleased with the 207 bios. I've noticed I don't get as much battery life as I used to with the new parts in my notebook.
Remember I had the motherboard replaced. Maybe this sucker is just drawing more power? Hrmm. Oh well., at least I have a new notebook that is brand new, even though it's still creaking. *sigh* I should've gotten the bluetooth edition, dang.
Yeah I'm going to stick with the 207 bios.
Any new projects for me to play with flaxx? -
soon dude... ;-) i'm in my finals... next week i'll be done, and i have a few ideas in the works...
-
Sweeeeet, can't wait man, just let me know.
-
I actually just reached the breaking point with this 0208 bios too; could you send a copy of 0206 to me? Please use:
[email protected]
Thanks! -
....that's a weird e-mail
But okay, I will send (later on today, when I have some free time)
