    Hello all,

I'm a new laptop user and have a question that I hope you can answer. My M6Ne idles at around 55-60 C and getting hot pretty fast to 70-75 with normal web browsing. The fan doesnt kick in until around 75 C (3000 rpm). I have been reading some of your informative reviews here in the forum and notice the normal temp for the cpu is about 40-45 C and the fan starts at 45 C. Is my brand new laptop has issue with overheating and the fan ? Can you please suggest any solution for this problem? By the way, I have installed the latest bios (205)and nothing changes.

Thank you in advance for you reply.

I have the exact same problem/issue as you...I too own a M6Ne (15.1"), and my fan doesn't come on until 75 degrees. Most of the time, the CPU stays around 59-65 degrees during web browsing and word processing...
I've e-mailed ASUS and they say it's normal...
I guess we just have to live with it.

    chill out dude ;)
auroras and I have been discussed this issue for a while, and none of us have fried his notebook yet.
as we now are three to cope with a hot notebook (in every aspect), we may assume this is a normal operating temperature among us asus owmners.

I might have been a little too optimistic in my last post.
so here's my mea culpa and recent experience.

this afternoon, after playing counter strike for a while,I've seen my temp rise to 101°c without the fan kicking in :(
thx to mobile meter display I quickly turned off the notebook.
It took me 2 reboots to get back to a "normal" fan behaviour
    ie 3000 rpm @ 75°c
    3600 rpm @ 90°c

I think this is not the first time CS is screwing my fan temp trigger. It might already have occured a few weeks ago. At this time I thought the airways were somehow blocked or power4gear was messing the fan control. but now I'm pretty sure it wasn't , the notebook was on a flat surface and power4gear and speeswitch are uninstalled. so my guess is that this strange fan behaviour is a software related problem.

I might also consider stop playing counter strike

hmm... perhaps our notebooks are incorrectly reporting the temperatures.
a 101 degree CPU sounds REALLY hot..
how hot is the back of your notebook?

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I managed to do a quick test on the lappy this morning and the result was not very pleasing. Here're some of the print screens, notice the time and temperature:

    1. 10:28 am : I turn on the laptop, the CPU starts right at 56 C and quickly increase to 75-80 C

    2. 10:33 am: CPU reach 85 C, no application is opened, the fan is still not on.

    3. 10:43 am: CPU drop back to 75 C and the fan turns on at 3000 rpm.

    4. 10:53 am: I play a DVD movie to check, the CPU temp goes up to 80 C, fan is still on at 3000 rpm.

    5. 11:05 am: I close the DVD application and open a CAD file to render, the CPU temp shoots up to 90 C and the fan kicks in at 4000rpm.

    6. 12:00 pm: I have closed all the applications and let the lappy idling for about 50 mintues .... the temp backs down to 77 C, the fan is running at 3000 rpm.

    7. It's now 1:20 pm ... the lappy has been idling with no application opened for over 1:30 hr and CPU temp is still at 77 C with the fan running at 3000 rpm.

Through my reding from this forum, most of the M6BNe's fans kick in at around 44-50 C, and that's reasonable. But in my case, it starts at 75C ..hmm. I quite concern about this because the temperature is pretty high even with no application opened, and on the long run it would shorten the life of the CPU, wouldn't it?. Is there any kind of software from Asus that actually lets you control the fan? Or we just gonna have to live with this?

    Cheers

If you change it to Dynamic Switching for AC power...how are your temps?

I assume the back of my notebook was quite hot, but cannot notice without reading mobile meter's display.
anyway, nothing seems to be melted, and that's good news .
have been playing some games since this historical temp record (need for speed underground), and everything is back to normal, cpu temp never goes beyond 90°c.

btw, nice mac GUI Philipham !!! looks like a real one.

It appears to be StyleXP along with Stardock's ObjectBar program on the bottom.
