    hi all,

I'm having troubles with winxp + service pack 2 on my m6sne. It takes bloody ages (about 1 to 2 mins) for my winxp to boot up now since i've installed service pack 2.

Does anybody know what to do to get my boot back to its normal speed?

    cheers

you could try defragging the hard drive...
check the startup services and see if there are unnecessary programs running.

    Thx OptikMist

that's what i wanted to know. I just needed confirmation that the M6 default applications can work properly with XP SP2. Guess it is time to do some investigation on the culprit and uninstall...

I'll prob format the HD and start from clean

    cheers

Just to let you know zippolater,

I just setup my new M6N this weekend with XP pro SP2 and everything is fine here. Doesn't really help you other than to let you know that it seems to work okay in normal circumstances.

    Cheers.

You should try "slipstreaming" a CD of Service Pack 2, so that when you install XP, SP2 will be loaded with it.
That's what I did.. and Windows loads just fine

MobilePC(Dec 2004 issue) has a small article on SP2=slow performance on notebooks. They were looking at sysmark performance with a range of 3-22% drop in scores seen (average=10%). I also noticed a increase in boot times when I installed SP2 ontop of SP1. I have since clean installed and regularly defrag my Hdd, which seems to help. But like the article I still think its still abit slower on boot up and office stuff. But I don't think its an ASUS problem I think most notebooks are suffering...guess this is the price of more security
