My M6Va (I think it is similar to the Z70Va) notebook makes a loud buzzing sound when I use it. It makes this sound when booting up, when I play music, when I play games, when I scroll a web page etc. and is very annoying as sometimes it is continuous when I do these things. In fact the only time when the computer doesn't produce this sound is when the CPU is idle. The problem is independant of whether the computer is on battery power or plugged in, or whether the sound is muted or not. Do you know what is causing this? Is it a known problem? What can I do to stop this?
Thank you.
ps: I think the sound is coming from the upper left side but I am not 100% sure. It is not the hard drive.

I cant hear what you hear but if you are talking about a hi pitch very low sound that can only be heard in a completley silent room then its very common. i ve seen that on almost every model. You have to remove your ear from the palm rest and use it like it should be used without worrying it is going to break. That sound is the normal sound of power conversion. ....i think though i am not an electrician by trade

it gets pretty load to the point where you can hear it over fans etc... but only when scrolling etc... its wierd... no idea what is causing it... no biggie... makes sense its power conversion though...

really? I can hear it but not all the time and mine doesn't happen when I'm scrolling, but when the cpu load is at 100 and when it is plugged in or on battery...it's not that loud, you can't hear it unless you have your head to the keyboard as he said..

Mine doesn't have any sound at all. Maybe my ear is bad :asus:

call up your dealer and let them listen to the sound, they'll probably help you fix it.

Sturm if it is that loud then it must be a problem....mine isn't that loud and doesn't happen often...I don't really listen for it so I guess either I don't notice it or it's so quiet and happens infrequently enough that it's fine...
In your case it seems to be really loud and happening frequently OR you are actually listening for it, which isn't normal.
Call your reseller....goodluck

go through your sound settings. probably a ground problem with soemthing like AUX or Video or PC Speaker. For the record, mine is completly silent. Especially now that I used speedfan, I don't even hear the fans. All I can hear is the hard drive (which is pretty quiet).

I've been trying a few things and I think that the sound is being made by the video card because when I deactivated PowerPlay the sound became louder and there was a quieter one being made even when the computer was idle; this was not the case before..

I've had a couple of systems do thing like this in the past.
My old desktop would make an odd electrical 'chirping' type sound when I scrolled a webpage or moved the mouse, even with the PC speaker disconnected and nothing plugged into the sound card. However it was barely noticeable over the fans, and since I usually have headphones on I rarely noticed it.
I also have an old Toshiba Satellite 1805-S177 laptop that was doing the same thing the other day when I was trying to do some work. It was loud enough to hear over the (already loud) fan. I'm sitting here playing with the laptop right now and it's not doing it at all, so I have no idea what was causing it.
I think in some cases electrical interferance can create these noises, even when all sound systems are turned off.
It did seem to be video-related on my old desktop, though.... -
I heard it! It was lastnight. I was playing on my desktop with my notebook, downloading program from internet, right by myside. Then i heard this very annoying and very high pitch sound. It drove me crazy. I looked around to find the source of the sound and i remember this tread on the forum. So i went ahead and check my notebook. After fussing with it for hours, the sound still won't go away, i went crazy. Then my brother came home and turn off our electric heater. Kaboom! The sound disappear. -_-".. Doh! It wasn't the laptop.
