    Hi
I need a laptop at some point in the future for general browsing, occasional work and games while still being portable. For this I have decided I want a Radeon X700 128, as close to 2ghz Pentium M and a gig or ram. Wifi, Bluetooth and a 15.4 inch display are also preferable and I am based in the UK though an international warranty would be useful. So far this has brought me to Acer and Asus, durability of Acer worries me so that leaves me with two Asus models :asus: :

    A6Va-Q043H for £1100 approx

15.4" TFT (WXGA, Colour Shine) –
    Intel Pentium-M 750 1.86G (2ML2, FSB533) –
Video Camera Built-in(1.3 million pixels) –
    ATI Mobility Radeon X700 128MB DDR –
    1024MB(512x2) DDRII SDRAM –
    100GB HDD - DVD+/-RW Dual Double Layer –
    802.11g WLAN - Bluetooth Built-in - WinXP Home

    M6Va-Q023P for £1200 approx

15.4" TFT (WXGA, Colour Shine, Zero Bright Dot) –
    Intel Pentium-M 760 2.0G (2ML2, FSB533) –
    ATI Mobility Radeon X700 128MB –
    1024MB(512x2) DDRII SDRAM –
    100GB HDD - DVD+/-RW Dual Double Layer –
    Gigabit LAN - 802.11g WLAN - Bluetooth Built-in - WinXP Pro

I have searched through some of the posts and I am aware the M6 is newer, lighter and smaller than the A6. It’s also a bit faster and has XP pro but doesn’t have the camera of the A6 which I like though it’s not essential. I have also found different sites different saying things about whether they use the Sonoma or Dothan core.
I am more concerned about possible heat issues of the smaller M6 resulting in the use of noisey fans or over warm palms  . Durability (carbon vs plastic) and battery life are also key points
Thanks for your help and opinions :)
    Ed

I am actually looking at the same two laptops, though with different processors (Pentium M 740 1.73Ghz).

Only the M6Va is much more expensive than the A6Va here in Denmark, which is really a shame.

Does the A6Va have a glossy screen?

According to those specs listed, both screens have a glossy screen...
"Color Shine" is Asus's version of a glossy screen.

The m6 has a carbon fibre body while the a6 is plastic, however I'm not 100% sure

I know this is confusin as hell(Since ASUS N.America changed the model names from the worldwide one) but the 'z' series is plastic, 'm' series is carbon fibre, 'w' series is carbonfibre/brushed aluminum, and 'a' series is plastic. Or at least that was what it WAS - I'm not sure how it is at now..

m6va = z70va but with a glossy screen, so I expect the reviews to be the same.

Not sure about the a6va though

z70va doesn't come with a glossy screen, but still is a better choice if require a better video because of x700 with 128MB.
Probably, you can email to Asus to make sure M6va=z70va, at least z70va in North America can be customized.

the m6va is an ENSEMBLE unit, with the same specs and body(I believe..) as the z70va but with a glossy screen and all those goodies with the ENSEMBLEs.

I'm not quite sure, but worldwide, there isn't a customizable m6(aka z70 series) except for North America..

You both are correct... the Z70Va does NOT come with a glossy screen - but if it does, then it's the M6Va.
The M6Va and Z70Va are the exact same with the exception of what coriolis said: M6Va is sold as ensemble (you get Asus global warranty!) whereas the Z70Va is a barebone unit...

Hmm, since the m6va is glossy, would it still be WSXGA or WXGA?

You can get it both as WSXGA and WXGA but I have quite some trouble finding resellers with the WSXGA screen.

Of course it will have to be the 15,4" screen.

So the A6Va is plastic and the M6Va is carbon fibre . . . now that is interesting. That should explain the price premium the M6 has over the A6.

The cheapest A6Va is already $1598 (price includes 25% VAT) here in Denmark but I cannot get a M6Va only with a Pentium M 740. The closest thing is the M6Va with 15,1" screen (which I am not interested in) for $1799 (including the 25% VAT).

Don't you just love the prices in Denmark . . .

Good thing I can buy without the 25% VAT bringing the M6Va down to $1439.

Wow, a Z70Va with a glossy screen at WSXGA res??? That would be nice, but if it does come in that res' with a glossy screen, wouldn't it be the same screen as the Z71v? Meaning it will sparkle like it's Christmas time as others have been posting?
