I just got my M70Vm today. I tried 2 XP cd's and same thing, getting blue screen when trying to install. I am just so angry. Am I stuck with Vista? Is there a work around? By the way, I never get to the point where it actually ask me to do anything for install, just crashes.

I am just so angry at this. Please forgive my newbish question.

Do you get the BSOD with the 0x00000007B STOP CODE ?

If so, then you can either switch off AHCI in the BIOS, if you are not dual-booting.

Or, you can use nLite to slipstream the SATA drivers into the XP install CD.

It'll be in the Advanced Options in the BIOS. Check for HDD Mode.

XP does not natively support AHCI/SATA. You'll have to slipstream the intel AHCI drivers. Or, if you have a USB Floppy drive, you can copy the drivers onto it, and F6-install the drivers during the XP install.

If Windows XP Professional 32-Bit (?), download this.

Download nLite, and use it to slipstream/integrate the iaAHCI.inf into the XP install, and burn a new CD of the slipstreamed XP.

Then use that CD to install XP.

Are you sure you get the 0x00000007B Error Code ? :D

I have checked with your concern with my friend who work for LynnBay.com, a reseller and custom built Asus notebook.

You can not change your M70Vm-C1 to windows XP. Asus does not provide all drivers (including VGA card driver) for Windows XP. No matter what you do, you will fail at the end becuase of no driver support.

Wrong. I have an Asus M70VM (UK spec not the C1 that everyone on here seems to be talking about) and I have successfully setup a dual boot with XP, I imagine that there would be no problems finding drivers for the C1 version either.

The drivers I used were a mix of those from the drivers disk supplied for Vista and XP drivers for the F8 series found on the Asus website.

    And everything works fine.

@Shadow85 - slipstream the sata driver using nlite and install XP with the slipstreamed disk, it'll work much better that way. ;)

This isn't the first time you've been given incorrect second hand information from your contact at LynnBay, which makes his/her reliability suspect.

While your contact is correct that Asus does not provide direct XP support for the M70, as noted by raven (and well known around here) Asus generally uses similar or same drivers for their hardware between XP and Vista, or between older and newer model updates so it often is just a matter of patching together those drivers that will make it work.

It's clear you're just trying to be helpful, which is good around here as the forum functions best when users try to help others out with their issues. However, I might suggest that you be more certain in the future, or at least mention that the info you offer could be incorrect :).

Go to Advanced>IDE Configuration>SATA Operating mode> change from Enhance to Compatible, press F10 to save the settings and exit.

If you know how to slipstream the SATA driver then download the driver here:
    http://downloadmirror.intel.com/16759/eng/f6flpy32_85.zip

Both iaAHCI.inf and iaStor.inf worked since M70VM does not have RAID controller.

If you have C1 and C2 the TV remote controller will not work since there is no IR driver for Windows XP, some people in the forum said they got it to worked so you might need to search the forum to see if people can help you with IR driver.
