Technically there shouldn't be a problem with buying an internal Blu Ray drive and installing it into an external SATA drive, but windows always has it's quirks, so I was wondering if anyone has done this and what the outcome was.

    Thanks

If your talking about Laptop Internal BluRay Drive:
Well the Blu Ray drives should be no different in formfactor and connectivity to a standard DVD-RW drive. These drives are still PATA(albiet the Optical connector) so you will need to convert that to IDE female with this, then to SATA with an IDE to SATA adapter, then with any standard eSATA HDD enclosure. The connection will br pretty weird looking like a daisy chain, but it will work, the only thing is that you won't be able to secure any of it and it'll look pretty homemade.

The other option is not go eSATA but USB or Firewire, and that would work quite easily with this:

If your talking about Desktop Internal BluRay Drive:
Then all you need is something like this. Self explainatory.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I did mean desktop internal. I was just wondering if anyone has done it, and if there have been any prblems as there sometimes are when a new technology comes out.

There shouldn't be any problems, it's a standard SATA or IDE interface despite it being a BluRay Drive, Hard drive or what not.
