Programs like S2kCtl allow AMD processors to enter the "STPGNT" state during idle time, a state in which the processor is in a very low power mode and where heat dissipation is minimal.

The STPGNT state or "Bus Disconnect" is rarely enabled by default and is generally not controllable by a BIOS setting.

S2kCtl works fine on my A2D notebook with an Athlon XP-M 2800+ processor and a SiS 746 chipset, but my CPU temperature doesn't seem to want to go below 50C even when the CPU stays at 400Mhz for an extended period of time.

Can somebody give this program a try? A lot of users say this Bus Disconnect mode really makes a difference.

BTW S2kCtl is just an example, other programs like CBID or CoolOn work too.
