Asus is finally back in stock if your on the email waiting list like me, but when I saw the price I nearly flipped out.
18.50 for the bracket, plus another 10 just for shipping on a piece of metal that cost them 50 cents to make.
So I know others before me have made their own brackets any ideas on what I should do?
I've read that a small foam block will suffice but I don't want to overheat the hard drive.

My G51 (which runs hotter on average than a G50) had a pair of foam strips on the second hard drive bay. The temp maxed out 49 while I was formating it.
No overheating with the foam as far as I can tell. -
Everest reports my primary HDD temps at 37 which is probably the idle temp, still. I can make a bracket out of metal its just going to be a pain.
My only real concern is that without a bracket that when I take the back panel off the HDD will not be supported by anything.
Other than that my whole reason for doing this is backing up tons of movies to a 320gb and then maybe reformatting my main HDD to one partition.
Newegg has a Seagate 7200rpm for 70 dollars but the Western Digital one is only 80.
Which do you think would be better? -

I haven't noticed any stability issues. Granted, I haven't played "Punt the Asus", but there is no problems only using the foam You might add foam to the bottom panel to get more pressure and thus more stability, but that's up to you.
For the WD drive, I'm assuming you mean this one.
I'm not exactly a HDD expert, but thus far for the week I've owned it it runs without a hitch. -
Yeah thats the HDD you linked to. Its either that or the Seagate one with basically the same specs only some people complained that the Seagate has a clicking problem and I was wondering if the problem is shared with the Western Digital drive as well.

None that I have encountered. I recommend it as far as my amateur modding experience goes.

Yeah I guess your right. I'll order that 320gb Western Digital tomorrow.
