A little while ago Justin mentioned in another thread that to his best knowledge the only manufacturer of super slim dvd-rw drives is Mat****a/Panasonic which is used in Asus notebooks. Do anyone know of any other manufacturers? The reason I ask is that I will most likely buy a W5 but want to swap the combo drive with a dvd-rw. But I saw posts like this one - http://club.cdfreaks.com/lite/t-101267.html - saying the Panasonic drive is stricter than others about region codes and that no software can bypass the region code set in the drive.

This really sucks as I will be using it on both sides of the Atlantic and would like to play both region 1 and region 2 dvds on it.

    Any input appreciated.

Nope, I'm 99% sure nothing else exists... there are only a few notebooks with them as it is, and the only ones with the dvd burners are sony's and asus'..... Even if you could get something else, the faceplate will surely not match up if it is made by another company... that'd be tricky.

    Thanks,
    Justin
