    Gidday guys

My W3J currently has 2 1G sticks, but now that the 2G sticks are readily available and affordable, I am wondering what the maximum is for a W3J running boring old XP Professional. Can it handle more? Is it worth it?

    Regards to all

    Hi mate,

Max W3J memory is 2,944 MB, you can see it in my sig. I have 2 x 2 GB RAM in my W3J and it can only read 2,944 MB. Trust me on this :D

I am running Vista in this hard drive. But I tried XP also in another hard drive (I have 2 160 GB HDD, one with Vista, the other with XP, I swap both of them as the primary hdd in my W3J, depends on the situation), and XP also shows max 2,944 MB (2.87 GB).
Some A8J users here also report 2,944 MB. I forget which thread though.

Robo is correct, its a limitation of a 32 bit application regardless of Vista or XP if its 32bit it only reads 3gb. I have tested on a desktop, I currently run XP64ed with 4GB at work and it uses all of it, its great. however onlaptops others have said the 945 chipset will only suport 3gb RAM regardless of your OS, so you may be better to run 1x1GB + 1X2gb, youre only going to use 3 so why get 4.

Hey robohgedhang, I was looking at HDDs today, you can now get 250gb 5400 drives! but guess what... they all seem to be SATA only! looks like PATA is being phased out, so annoying!

Yeah mate, I've read a review about the 250gb 5400 rpm HDD in a local computer magazine, it's a Western Digital, right? I agree, it's very annoying that PATA is being phased out. Or maybe we just have to wait a little longer for bigger size PATA drives... BTW, I'm using 2 x 160 GB drives now in my W3J (1 Hitachi, primary, and 1 Seagate in the ODD bay, both 5400 rpm).

thats correct, it also mentioned Hitachi Travelstar 5K250 and Fujitsu's MHY2BH, and get this a whopping 300GB MHX2300BT! imagine if they were PATA, we could have 600gb in our laptop!!

I might email these manufacturers to see if they plan to release any larger PATA drives.... finger crossed.....

At least I can now get a 4GB M2 memory stick for my SE K800 phone!
