But people voting that just signed up because they know somone and vote shouldnt be aloud.
-
I think as long as the person signs up like 1 week before a contest.

.... I've seen this with the member discount program I started here and I considered the issues with it involving this mvp program I started as well. The difference is that this program is meant to reward those who contribute (in both technical and social ways) to the forum. Some people who SHOULD vote aren't even members and this program was just another way I could think of to help push them into signing up and contributing themselves. On the other hand, the minimum post requirement for our member program has gone up and down over the last 8 or 9 months. What I saw was more padding of the posts when the requirement was lower because people would just post stupid things in other forums on the site to get the quota. I didn't want that and changed the quota higher. I also added in a time factor so that even if you only need 30 posts, you need to be a member for 15 days, so no need to rush it. Yes, this limits the members who use this discount, but that's what it's for... it's a little difficult, but basically any member who posts at all knows how easy it really is to do. This is to reward members who contribute.......... just like the MVP program. The only problem with making requirement for a certain post count and membership length is that a lot of people don't post and a lot of new members can certainly make claim that certain members posts have helped them more over the little time they've been around. Also, if you haven't noticed, we don't even have 50 votes..... it's pathetic as it is and if we have hundreds of votes, I could see limiting it just to get a more fair count..... but I don't think we've got anything to worry about in the next couple months.... unless this program really kicks off...
-
The only concern i had justin is people had signed up 3 i know of all in one day no posts and all voted for the same person. If i dont win i dont mind because i think others deserve it more. But it isnt fair for people to sign up simply to vote for a specific person. but it really doesnt matter. its nice of you guys to even go through the trouble of setting this contest up. I give you as much bussiness as i can when people i know need notebooks.

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..

No offense, y'all, but I had to vote for myself. Couldn't go out like a chump with a no-hitter.
Thank you for nominating me for this. I really do consider it an honor that some folks think I have made a worthwhile contribution here. -
kansa im actually surprised you havent had votes you have contributed plenty to this forum.

Steve - No, I totally understand and I haven't had the time to actually look at these members..... I already basically have two full time jobs and with summer coming, I am doing so many outdoor projects that I barely have time to visit the forum... so I let the mods police this whole thing. We WILL look at those people and it is very interesting, but we can have the admins check various things like their ip address amoung other things to see what's going on. The real ticket to why we should get fraudulent activity in these "contests" if you will, is because those who are nominated, like yourself, are respected individuals for the most part....... who have at LEAST made a big impact for a particular month in terms of contributions..... any one who does that, you would think, wouldn't play games can try to defraud the forum they helped over a simple little gift.......... With that said, can I say it won't or hasn't already happened? Not a chance. The one plus is that if we find any evidence of that occuring, I swear that person will either be banned from the site (if I can get the admins to go along with that), or at the very least, make sure they wished they were because everyone will know what they did... and on an off topic -- so you planning on getting the Z4 coupe I see in your avitar?
One other comment...... jezz.... vote for yourself. We all know that in every politcal race, people vote for themselves but you never really know. Here, I know you can see the vote and it might not look "cool", but what the hell, everyone has one vote, so if everyone votes for themselves it just evens it out anyway. So either the nominees can't vote or they should all vote and if they want to vote for themselves or the person THEY found most helpful... go right ahead. There isn't anything wrong with you thinking you were the most helpful.... if you're one of the 5 selected, you already have to know how much time you've been putting in.
Now, I made the rule that the admins and the mods and myself certainly wouldn't vote....... I wanted to extend that to ALL resellers that frequent the site (*cough* eddie), but honestly, if they have no part in the function of this program, I guess it really don't matter (I just figured it'd keep us out of it so we woudn't play favorites)....... but in all honesty, when we come to the forum, we see who contributes and if other resellers want to vote for someone, they're benefiting from these contributions too.... -
I noticed you havent been around much justin the forum isnt the same without you. Yeah im thinking of buying a z4 m coupe when it comes out. either that the new m3 coupe or 335i coupe all wheel drive with the new turbo inline 6 and maybe boosting the turbo and modding it. Just have to wait and see when they all come out.

Personally, I wouldn't go for a BMW at all, I prefer Audi. Maybe a nice S6? Or an Avant A4? -
I like audi as well. But i think bmw is just alittle sportier. although i think the audis are a bargin compared to bmw counterpart. THe audi A5 looks promising whenever it comes out.
I Have driven the 5 series and i personaly like the new 3 much better. The M5 is way overpriced so i wouldnt even look at that. i like the m coupe and new m3 coming out. But the 335i will have a 300HP turbo charged engine. Which i could boost to M3s 400hp. and the 335i is all wheel drive. So its a toss up i wouldnt mind a project car. the only audi i would be interested in is a S4 or A8
But this is way off topic. -
Cool... got to vote before the poll closes. This was tough deciding between all the nominees, since you all are very helpful... but I voted for mastha212, since he contributed a lot with the W3J information, pictures, and benchmarks. Goodluck to all the nominees though!

... now the A5's are going to be out next September...... S5's hopefully coming at the same time or at least by the end of the year... I'm considering moving over to that platform when they get the RS5 out.... I just passed on the RS4 because I would lose a ton on my car and I've just completed a ton of work on it. If I don't have a family by time the RS5 is ready in probably two years from now... I think that's my next ride. The R8 just isn't going to be practical, even though I'd love to have one......
I think waterfest is around the middle of July... 15th-16th maybe........ I've got a full plate in the meantime and I honestly don't know what else is going to be done to it before Waterfest, but a full exhaust, big brake kit, carbon fiber hood, and maybe... just maybe a super charger is in this things future.... not to mention my custom one-off Foose wheels designed and made for me by one of the most famous Asus notebook owners.. Chip himself...... I'm hoping to have those on by Waterfest to set myself apart, but he's super busy and still needs to find time to prototype them........ But to bring this back on topic and end this story...... I'm working on a way to integrate the R2h umpc..... I should have retail units before waterfest, but I'll at least have a demo soon to do the mock ups with.... Computer wise, I'm still debating the best options, but I think I'm sick of having a notebook in the glovebox and considering just a screen in the glove box which is attached to say a W5 motherboard in the trunk...... that way it can be permently wired up. -
wire a 12in touch panel to the front connect to a laptop in the trunk on a docking station maybe. a 10in touch panel would be better not even sure if they make them. If you used a reg lcd not sure what you would use for a control. A keyboard upfront would be awkward. unless you can get a laptop keyboard with a trackpoint and it mount it somewhere in some fiberglass or something.

I just drooled all over myself while looking at those photos.
-
Justin man, whose car is this? Do you have relatives living in Germany?
I love it, it's so awesome. One slight remark, I like the Avant edition better than the limousine edition. Especially the back has a better look imho.
Edit: I won't go offtopic anymore -

Justin if you got some type of GSM router you wouldnt need a dedicated pc would you? not sure if they can connect alone like a dsl router never used one. But if they can they you can just have a umpc in front.

After some heavy heavy research, it appears there were 3 'duplicate' voters with the same IP address, with 1 post combined for all 3. They have been taken out. In other news, Justin's car is nice - as usual.
Oh, and its closed. Thanks to all that participated, though I would of wanted more -
Congatulations, SRD!
Continuing the OT, my colleague just got a G35, which is FAST. Loud as everything, but FAST, with 300 HP and a high Power/Weight ratio. All we heard about was how nice the Audi's were, but in the end he went with his wallet and got the G35. I do drool over the Audis, though.
He's trying to convince me to get a new car, but I'm "sticking with the Pig" and driving my 90 Camry till I can get a real job in 2 years. Then, maybe. -
Thanks kansa and everyone who voted for me i do appreciate it. do i get like solid gold statue of a notebook? Or like a ring sorta like when you win the superbowl?
And yes the g35 is nice if only the inside was as nice as the out i might get it.
Kansa dont ever get a real job, because then you know you trapped the rest of your life -
Congrats SRD.
I'm hoping 3rd time is the charm for me. -
