    Hey,

I have the Asus g50v-A2 and I'm having an issue I cant figure out how to resolve. When off/in sleep mode, the "quicklaunch" or whatever button is still active to do that media thing. Now, I've got mine set up in raid 0 so the Asus program wont work but that button still seems to launch windows media center when the computer is on or in sleep mode.

The problem is I use this computer at school so I turn it on/off all the time between classes, so it just makes sense to put it to sleep instead of turning it off completely. But when its in my backpack asleep, the quicklaunch button somehow gets pressed and turns on the computer on to launch media center, where it overheats because there's no circulation in a back pack.

I've done everything to stop this, disabled services etc... even going into default programs and blocking media center from ever launching. But even then, the computer comes out of sleep to display an error message saying it cant launch....and then overheats.

Is there any way to disable this useless button?

You shouldn't put it to sleep and put it in a backpack anyway. Why not hibernate?

I have a G50Vt-X1 and when I was running DMC4 BenchMarks on it Media Center would launch every time I exited. It did not always do this and stopped when I started running it direct instead of using the Launch shortcut with the DX9 - DX10 selection.

So your instant on button launches media center? Mine is in raid 0 also, but it just gives me a message that it can't run the express gate because it's not installed. How did you get it to launch media center? That's cool to me....

It's not good if that button is so easy to press, since as you say it can cause (severe) overheating due to lack of ventilation. Even if it were to start just the ExpressGate the problem would be the same.

Even if you use hibernate, won't that button still turn on the computer? If not, then definitely hibernate is the way to go. If yes, then I don't know...

I haven't tried hibernate, but even then, it will take just as long to turn on, wont it? Like, I have to turn it on eight-ish times a day, and dont really want to wait for it to boot up at the beginning of every class, when it comes out of sleep in like 5 seconds.

And I didnt do anything to make it launch media center. When its off, The button tries to launch expressgate but fails cuz of raid 0, but when on (or apparently when sleeping) it runs media center

Hibernate is just loading pointers to memory. Booting up is building those pointers. I find returning from hibernation takes about 1/5 the time of booting up.
Just give it a try and if it's too slow, you will have to find another solution.

Hey guys, thnx for all the help. Unfortunately, the button is still active in hibernate, same way its active when off. So it can still be pushed, causing it to try to launch expressgate, where it will fail and go to booting windows... Which leads to the same problem lol

Tape over the button? :) I don't know how you could solve this...

That sucks. If there's no BIOS option to disable the button, you've got no choice but physical disconnection.

Or tape over the button, with a kind of adhesive tape that will not trigger it. (I think insulating tape is a good bet)
Has the advantage that it doesn't kill the warranty (whereas cutting wires or irreversibly modifying any computer components probably would)

Well I found a solution, which seems a little weird but it works:

If media center is already running when I put the computer to sleep, the button wont wake the computer up
