I'm still deciding on which laptop to buy-- but I want to ask for specifics first.

I know G51Jq can clock the RAM at 1333MHz if the processor supports it (e.g. Quad-cores)-- but I dislike G51's weight and styling; I want a mobile workstation-type of laptop, not something that shouts "gaming."

I would rather have the more normal-looking NxxJq (N53Jq/N61Jq), but its specs only mentioned 1066MHz RAM support. I wonder would the RAM be clocked at 1333MHz even it has a i7-720QM and the appropriate RAM installed...?

(BTW: I found Asus's model naming system extremely confusing, especially on the suffixes. While I think these suffixes mean different mainboard in the same chassis, I cannot initutively know the difference between all the Ja, Jh, Jq, Jw and Jx's of the world until I check the specs.)

If it doesn't support 1333mhz ram, it'll just run it at 1066. Most likely, anyways..

After all, this is Asus, so the problem would probably be: it may not run at 1333MHz out of the box, but can I set it to 1333? This is not even overclocking but just have the RAM to run sync with the processor's FSB. I don't think that would cause much problem with heat; many of Asus' competitors already allows RAM to run at that speed without sacrificing weight. After all, MSI and Compal did that-- I can't see why couldn't Asus.

As long as you purchase a Nxxjq series that utilizes the i7 cpu and not an i3 or i5(not sure if any of those configs actually exist). You can utilize 1333mhz ram on the laptop. The stock configuration is 1066, but that is just because Asus uses 1066 ram inside of the laptop, not because it will not support it. The max FSB that an i5 will recognize is 1066, if you use 1333mhz ram like others have said it will just downclock it.
