I have got a 1 GB RAM for W5F which came from a W3V and it is recognised OK and has increased RAM to 1.5GB However it is not the new faster RAM (666MHz) which dealer will be getting in side next two weeks, All seems to be running OK and much faster file opening in MS Office and Publisher with the u/grade. My question is will using this slower RAM I think it is either 333 or 555 speed matter and if I get the new faster type will I notice any difference for same size (1.5GB total) - will using slower RAM do any harm to W5F .. Please advise

thw w5f has the 533mhz ram onboard i believe. so you will not get a benifit going with a faster chip since it will only run as fast as the slowest module. it will not do harm. all that matters is its DD2 memory the speed wont hurt anything.

That's correct....... going with 677 on the W5 isn't going to show any difference over 533.. The onboard module on that system is 533. On the old W5a/ae the onboard was 400 and although we suggested the use of 533, it was only because 533 and 400 were the same price..... 677 is far more expensive than 533 and there's not going to be a performance difference.
... you'll be good with the ram you have. -
Hi, I would like to buy a 1gig ram for my W5F. I was waiting for a 667 mhz RAM because the seller from CanadaSys told me this was a 667mhz ram and the 1 gig RAM is not out yet because it's too new and it will be expensive.
If I understand correctly, it's not faster to put a 667mhz even if my system is 533. Can you suggest some of the good 1 gig ram(533) because I'm new to this stuff and I just bought my first laptop. I want to upgrade to a 1,5gig. Thanks! -

Well that's just slightly wrong information because Asus put 533 chips onboard, 677 were not available to them at the time of production. Although it can handle 677, the onboard ram is 533 and if you add a 677 stick, it'll just clock down to 533....... we saw this last year with the W5a/ae where DDR2 400 was onboard and a 533 stick would clock down to 400.
Two bits of information...
1. I suggest DDR2 533 in the extra slot of the W5f - 677 isn't going to help you at all and it's also twice the cost of 533 right now
2. We just got our supply of DDR2 677 from Corsair today.... until today I thought the price was about triple 533, but at my count it's only about double.. still expensive I think, but it's out and available... or at least it should be.
Memory for W5F does speed matter
