this was reported on main page here - seems a serious issue with the new duo cpu machines

    http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/01/28/toms_hardware_uncovers_power_drain_issue/

plug in a USB device and the batt life goes in the toilet it seems

brings up a couple questions - will it delay the duo's and as importantly can we trust them when they do show up

what is really troubling is that apparently this has been a known issue since JUly and has not been addressed

Point is there is no need for a new thread if it is on the main page already.

    there isn't?

my question is here in the Asus forum and regards the effect of this if any on Asus products

but thanks for acting as the forum police - we used to refer to guys like that "Bicycle Danny" in school ;)

There's at least three copies of this thread elsewhere on this site and at least one of them discusses how Asus will be handling the situation. It is very unfair of you to call Pyro_Dragun the "forum police" because maintaining order is important on any forum -- and one of this size is rather difficult to do so on. No one wants to read the same thread four different times in four different places.

I came to the Asus forum to ask a question about the effect this might have on Asus products - I am new here but that pretty much seemed the intelligent place to ask the question

guess now I know the Asus forum isn't really the only place to get answers on Asus and I'll have to search all the other myriad forums here first before I post a question about Asus products ......

oh, and I did look in the thread on the main topic from the front page before I came here and asked

I had also scanned the hardware forum and saw no thread - I just tried six different search variations and this is the only one I found:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=38705&highlight=core+power

which offers no information other than user speculation

you do realize I assume that for some reason the system owners here have disabled search for three letters or less search terms - like "duo" "usb" "bug" the three most important search terms here

so tell us what search term you used to find the threads you claim exist?

if there are "at least 3 threads" then either of you could have simply pointed me to them - so yes the "forum police" comment is IMO correct

we come here to get help and information - and that means asking questions - going to the forum for a brand you're asking about is the proper place to do so as far as I am concerned

so does anyone have any info on this bug and its affect/relationship with upcoming Asus products?

I was gonna wait vor V6j but battery life is important - and this points me back to a current model

Rest assured Asus will NOT release such a system (at least in North America) if they KNOW of certain bugs. The bugs regarding Core Duo should be addressed before any Asus Core Duo system is shipped here.

thanks for a reply Aurora - the question is what are any of the guys who sell these systems hearing about it - will it delay the shipment release of the early systems - - like the V6j which seemed it was due to be here in the next 4 weeks or so

and I think the story from Toms means they pretty much have to KNOW there are bugs ;)

the other question is this seems to have been know since July - how could it have been ignored that long?

and as a mod - would you let me know if it was out of line to ask this here - or for the couple above who attacked for it while offering nothing in return?
