The one I currently have might be beginning to fall apart. The black plastic bit that covers the wire connecting the computer to the power supply is broken, exposing the white wire underneath. I feel that if it keeps bending enough, it will break entirely. I want to make sure I have a backup one just in case, one that I can keep sitting in one place while this one is the one that travels around with the machine.
Problem is, I don't know where to get one. I purchased the whole thing from Newegg.ca, but I don't know what they can do about it since the machine is unavailable entirely there. I checked ASUS' own site if they had anything, but to no avail. Is there anywhere else I can possibly check to get one?
Thanks in advance to those who help.

There are plenty of universal power bricks, just make sure it can handle the load of your unit. I myself have a Targus 180W that comes with 3 plugs for the most common laptops (One fits my G73 perfectly) and got it refurbed for $40.

I remember getting a universal power supply for an older laptop I had. I suppose I could look for something similar. But the one I had was weird in that it had multiple connectors to attach from computer to power supply. How will I know if the one I buy is compatible with this laptop?
-
Got a pic of the tip on your current one?
-
Not at the moment (I'm at work and have no camera with me), but I can get one later on and post it.
But I'm also guessing the new supply has to be able to provide the power the computer needs, too. Obviously one designed for a tiny netbook won't do the job. According to the bottom of my machine, it says:
Input: +19V === 6.3A, 120W
And the current supply I have says:
Output: 19V === 6.32A
I should try and make sure these numbers still match up on the new supply, right? -
The larger the capacity of the brick, the less you will stress the unit and it will stay cooler. My old Gateway unit had a 120W brick (hot!), replaced with the 180W unit, and it never got hotter than mildly warm.

So, I saw on the website of a nearby local store that carries an HP 180W Smart-Pin AC Laptop Adapter. Provided that the connector can fit in this machine, that should hopefully be more than enough to fuel this machine?

I had the same problem with my Asus G1 laptop. I bought Coolermaster's NA 90 Power Adapter and its never runs hot. Chastity is correct, higher the capacity better for you laptop. Usually the universal power adaptors come with bunch of tips. Make sure you match that with your syste, and you should be fine.

Good news! A co-worker has a good quality phone camera and was able to take the picture and email it to me. I uploaded it and here it is:

When I measured the overall width of the connector, it measures to about half a millimeter, if that also helps. Not teeny tiny like you see on smaller laptops. -
I've been trying to look around for a new power supply online at the usual suspects like TigerDirect and Newegg, unfortunately, they either have no laptop power supplies, or those they do have are underpowered for my machine, generaly around the 90W range. It seems like the only one that might work is that local one I mentioned that gives 180W...

Targus APA05US 180W for $29.99 + $6.85 s/h
This unit I have, and your tip is a very common one for laptops, which this unit has. -
Very nice, that should be good. And quite cheap, too! Thanks for that.
-
I ordered one too since it's nice to have a spare.
-
Mine came in today, and yep, it's the 180w unit. Even comes in a nice carrying case, unlike my first one. Just to note, the wire likes to twist at the base of the brick, and will eventually come loose. I suggest you reinforce it with something to avoid that.

It took a while before I ordered, but with my original power supply hanging on mere threads, I needed a new one. So I ordered two, one for moving around, and one to permanently sit at home, never moving. And it works great. Thanks again for the suggestion.
Might Be Needing a New Power Supply...
