I'm stuck in Canada with limited options in laptopsSo after contemplating on what to get, I'm pretty much set to buy a F3SV-B1 (and stick another gb of ram into it). But with so many resellers to choose from (all with limited background info), I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this.
MilestonePC carries the B1 for $1779.00 but with price matching
Pacific Notebook at $1689
Greytech at $1660.95
NCIX for $1709 with pricematch
All 3 were found on Asus' certified reseller list. So if anyone had any experience with these companies (or any other certified resellers who are willing to price match) please leave a post, because after sales service is always important![]()

I don't have any experience with the first three stores however I have bought a few things from ncix ( a hard drive, wireless mouse and ram). Ncix seemed to be pretty competent. My orders arrived on time, complete and nothing was dead on arrival. Also check out resellerratings.com for more info on each store.
-
I've only heard good things about MilestonePC; they actually post on here fairly regularly as well.
-
Hey hobo,
I bought my W3J from MilestonePC back in November '06. They were very reliable and provided excellent service. I highly recommend them ! #1 ASUS dealer in Canada.
Cheers. -
I purchased my W7J from MilestonePC in July '06 and they were fine. Prompt and quick to respond to any email queries I had.
-
Ya MilestonePC is a great outifit, I also bought my w3j from them in June 06. Any questions or concerns I had were promptly addressed via email, even on the weekend. I would definitely go with them! (no offense to the other companies)
-
MilestonePC has changed. They don't reply to mails and phone calls! I hope it is not permanent problem with them and they will not go out of business.
-
And what is your basis for this? This is a pretty strong accusation to level at a company.
Having said that, is anyone else experiencing any issues? I just tried calling their US toll free number and got a generic message saying the person at that extension is unavailable (which seems like an odd message).

i bought my g1s at ncix, great people would deffinetly recomend them

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Danny (the owner) had a death in the family very recently (reports were that it was his father in China) and has, it seems, gone on a leave of absence. He apparently took care of all the online and phone correspondence. They are supposed to be working on having someone take over, but it seems to be going slowly.
Milestone has been a first rate company in the past. -
NCIX is a reputable place. They are like the newegg of Canada.
Milestone is much smaller, but they deal extensively with ASUS models and are considered the ASUS specialists in Canada. They are a reputable company, but there has been some questions in these forums over the last few months about their customer service. You might consider doing a search of the forums.
For what its worth, I'd work with NCIX. -
As mentioned, if you want to buy now, look elsewhere instead of MPC. They sell computers and notebooks fine in store(only in Markham ATM) since Danny is not needed for that, however, online and through phone calls, I'd temporarily avoid because Danny's not around. It's unfortunate and a bad business choice on his part, but sh*t happens in life, it just came around at the wrong time and place for Danny.
He should be back soon, and then it'll be back to normal. Until then, look elsewhere. -
Yeah, I agree with Zadillo - I went and checked out Milestone's store in Markham just last week... I think it was Tuesday or Wednesday (Sept. 4 or 5).
I met Dan (Danny?) and he was very helpful, showed me three different models: a 17" LG, a 15" ASUS and a 14" ASUS. And he was very patient with my dozens of questions about ASUS and their laptops.
In the end I left the store feeling confident if I were to buy from them. I've said this in another post recently and I'll say it again: if and when I decide to buy an ASUS laptop I'll buy it from Milestone PC.
They seem like a decent outfit and Dan seemed like a nice enough guy. Plus with price match I think I should get a good deal from them.
Cheers, -
My C90S I bought from DirectCanada actually shipped only today, and it was from NCIX lol. I can on purolator's tracking system: PACKAGE HANDED BY DAVID FROM NETLINK COMPUTER, RICHMOND BC
-
DirectCanada is NCIX, just cheaper cause they have no real customer service reps.
They're across each other even, check the addresses
-
Yeah I know. They do awnser quickly though but at the phone, I called like 3 times to have update on my order and it was always the same guy. and he had a chinese accent >-<
Still funny that the website says "shipped from vancouver wharehouse"when puro says richmond XD. -
pacificnotebooks is pretty nice too, if you've seen some of my other posts then you might see me mention them several times, cause i got my g1s there recently and an w5a a while back, they had great customer service
-
I wouldn't suggest Pacific Notebook from reviews i read.
-
You can't go wrong with NCIX, they are an great company. I have bought everything from simple cables, to complete custom systems from them, and have nothing but good things to say about them.
Only bad thing about NCIX is the horrible phone support, but their online support is amazing. So if you have any problems, send them a ticket online, it will be answered way faster. If you call, be prepared to wait on hold for a long time, and then when they do answer, don't expect them to know anything. -
Funny, I can't seem to find Danny at all. No phone answers, No PM responses, no answers to multiple Emails, no responses to my inquiries on the order I paid for. I finally filed a PayPal claim and they decided in my favor as the seller never responded. Yet recovered NO money. Thankfully AmEx can handle that; I've filed a chargeback. I would never, EVER order from them again.
I"ve not heard from them once since ordering on September 5th. Every time I called I spoke to a guy who indicated that Danny was gone and didn't know when he'd be back... and that the LA office is 'closed... for remodeling or something like that'. That's a quote.
NCIX OTOH did great. I ordered an LG A1 from them and had it but a few days later. No problems whatsoever. -
Wow, I really hope MilestonePC gets things together. It seems like it would be a shame if they lose a lot of the goodwill they have built up.
-
I do too; it's intensely frustrating to see that someone went by the store and supposedly spoke with Danny but that I can't get a return phonecall, an Email or even a PM reply for love or money.
-
I recently tried to purchase an item from milestonepc, I called them and got no response, I emailed them and got no response.
I hope everything is alright over there. -
I don't think that would've been Danny. I believe Danny works in the states and usually the guy at the Markham location is Leo.
-
No, Danny works in Toronto.
-
All this talk about Danny makes me miss my brother. His name is Danny...
-
I really hate to bump an older post but i've experienced some rather poor service from milestonepc. Now before everyone asks, i've pm'd emailed and phoned them and havn't heard anything back.
I ordered on oct 4 2 asus z62j notebooks which were on sale for $349 on act 10th my cc was charged for both of them yet my order status was still pending. I phoned on oct 13th and spoke with someone not sure who and they said that there was only 1 notebook not 2 like i had ordered. I asked if just the one could be shipped and the person on the phone said that i could get the one notebook with a cpu/ram/hdd installed. I didn't want that i oreded 2 barebones becasue i have parts for them, not sure what the reluctance is to sell me a barebones notebooks. Anyhow i tried to call back to cancel my order and get a refund and to no avail i can't get ahold of anyone, i really hope i don't have to issue a chargeback with my cc company. Is anyone else having trouble, i've had nothing but good service in the past from milestonepc.
I have read about what is going on but it is no excuse for charging my cc without shipping out the products. -
File a chargeback. You'll never hear from them. I ordered a notebook from them, paid via PayPal, and never heard another thing. No response to Emails or PMs. Calls went to someone in Canada who knew less than nothing. I had to file a chargeback and to date STILL haven't heard anything. I understand a week or even two. This is going on two months. IMO they're done.
-
Just a small update i did manage to contact someone at milestonepc and they said they would issue a refund of my cc, but that was over a week ago. I'm starting to think something is really up there, and the family problem is no excuse, hopefully no one else gets caught up in the garbage
-
this is all to bad about milestonePC, I had great service from them a while ago when I ordered my w3j, ah well.
-
same problem, ordered my computer on september 25th, and today (october 24th) I havent get any contact from Danny after my 1st delivery had to be returned to fremont, CA.
yesterday I talked to someone in canada, they said danny was there but he was not available at the moment, said they would ask him about my order and by tomorrow (meaning today) he should contact me....
I really hope this gets resolved asap anyway, MilestonePC it blacklisted already... -

i belive dannys fremont location is closed now and he is into other business unfortunately. And unfortunate for alot of people that customized their notebooks and cpus through milestone who have no warranty
-
Well that explain a lot of things ... thanks for the info.
-
i guess its time for a legal action then....
-
Geared2play.com Company Representative
Leagal action against an llc? I doubt that will work out for anyone. Do carefull research when you buy online. that is the only action you can take. -
I wonder how that would have helped people in this case though. Frankly, I myself had been very close to buying a laptop from them based on all the goodwill and great things you heard about them here.

goodwill is sometimes a case of mistaken identity. Dany had been in business in fremont less then a year. He came down from canada where he was established. he offered the cheapest price and good presales service. he had a good identity on this forum. There is not a single soul here or any shread of evidence milestone serviced a single notebook or provided any type of in depth knowledge on the notebooks they sold. dannys presense on the forum was simply a pitch and sell game. Unlike my self and gentech..... There is no way for the buyers to know this really. Its my job to know my competition. Between my self and ken we are the only 2 vendors in the nation that have intimate knowledge of what we sell from asus. With hundreds of other vendors on the block who specialize in price over "intimacy" we may fall to the same fate as milestone. The same thing happen to proportable who before my self, ken and danny was one of the biggest asus supliers of notebooks. They had to get out into other business as asus strategy flipped 360 degrees 3 times over the last 3 years. I dont have a problem with great vendors who specialize in this product. kudos to ken from gentech. They are a competitor but they do their jobs right and give a good name to what we sell as well. Unlike some vendors who collected your money and retired before warranty started piling up.
What really gets me is remembering how many times milestone was recommended while their own website advertised a complete lack of a warranty and any return policy. I just dont get it. We turned down countless people who wanted a pricematch for the prices at milestone. Most of who will inevitably come back to this forum and ask us for help if their laptops breaks down. Alot of you may not know this but alot of our business comes from out of warranty repairs from other vendors customers. Its a shame but i am not one to complain. I will be here for years to come and most likely see the same situation repeat it self over and over as i have seen over the years. -
Very good points.
Probably good advice too, you can't read too much simply into reading people saying they had a good experience.
Or more specifically, just because someone from the company personally posts on the forums doesn't necessarily mean anything if they can't back things up. -

Tru but people will never get it. its not about how nice the guy on the phone was or how quickly he responded to email. its about how many of his customers were not turned away when they needed help.
-
With all due respect, I think it's about all of the above and more. I agree that research is essential and that service quality is an important factor. However, it's not the only factor and, more importantly, it's one of the hardest factors to determine when you're looking to buy a product. Even though they gave others great service, a reseller might treat you (speaking generically) like dirt. Friendliness and quick response times can signify good service and many people looking to buy a notebook simply aren't aware of how to gauge good service. Unfortunately, sometimes they don't. However, that's no reason to say that they aren't important.
I've learned since I bought my computer that there are a lot of "flash-in-the-pan" resellers who go out of business relatively quick. In order to get a good idea of who the good ones are, a lot of research is needed. I'm glad that the reseller who sold my computer is still going strong, but I also feel sorry for folks who bought from companies that have gone under or decided to ignore their customers. And more importantly, I've learned that it's very hard to recommend a good reseller without having actually bought from them. -
its nice to finally get an insight into what may be going on there, i'm thinking we should maybe start another thread to see exactly who has got burned from Milestone. I know 1 week before i ordered 2 barebones from them, i had a friend order a V6V laptop that was on clearance and he received it right away no problems, then a week later i get ripped off. I"m not so much concerned about the warranty aspect of the notebooks, I know lots of people don't have a whole lot of knowledge servicing them like i do. What does bother me is being out 800 bux and i think more people need to know tha milestone is seriously ripping people off. I still havnt got a PM back yet either.
-
Researching your purchase cannot be stressed enough. Though sometimes bad things still happen.
My first notebook purchase was a nightmare, spent months researching not only which notebook I wanted but the various companies. I spent a good 2 weeks on resellersratings and the BBB though the later wasnt as useful.
In the end I spent a bit more and went with a company that had been around for a while, things went famously and I happily return every few years to buy new. The other factor was location, I picked a store only 5-6 hours drive from me. -
For me it was out of state, to avoid state taxes.
-
so has milestonepc in canada gone bust too?
-
Yeah out of state for me too. Its just the next state over.
-
In the summer of 2006 i purchased a fully optioned out W3J from milestone pc, had the configuration maxed out. I had wonderful service, they overnight shipped it to me and i had a great experience with them. I always do research my online purchases. Like i said 1 week prior to my order my friend had an order done and it went off without a hitch
-
I purchased an extended battery for my W7J from MilestonePC about 9 months ago. The battery was showing extended wear, and so I returned it two weeks ago. MilestonePC replaced and returned it promptly, no issues.
I can't comment on others' expereince, but I can say I have not had any recent issues (Octobet 2007). -
Update:
For interest, I called MilestonePC (Canada) this afternoon. I got no answer, and the answering mailbox indicated that it was "full".
That's kind of a bad sign, especially at the end of the business day. -
I bought my W3V from MilestonePC June 2006 so it's been a year and 4 months; used my Visa that has an "exteded warranty plan" (supposed to extend manufacturer's warranty by 1 year to 2 years total). Just recently my battery wear has gone down a LOT (two weeks ago it was 35%, today it's 52% wear!).
Not sure what my options are... is this kind of problem under warranty? Should I contact MilestonePC or am I allowed to contact ASUS for this issue?
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Standard across the industry for new battery warranty is 1 year and is separate from manufacturer's warranty on the notebook; at 16 months neither VISA, Asus nor Milestone can help you. You'll have to purchase a new one from somewhere
.
MilestonePC...a reliable store?
