Hey all,
I hope you can help me. Since a week i have a new Asus notebook the M6V. I'm very happy with it only the Intel pro wireless 2200BG mini pci card is not what i expected. The signal is low and even drops so now and then. Can you pls tell me if there is solution fot this problem? Where is this card located is it simple to put in an other better card? So I dont need to open the complete laptop?
thanx in advance.

Yeah, it's not a problem.
Remove the screws under the system marked with a "k<" and then flip the notebook over and push back the spring clips above the "F" keys on the keyboard... should be 3 of them...... Pull out the keyboard. Pop up the upper part of the keyboard cover, which is where the power button is stuff is. There is a black cover to the left with one screw it in.. that's where teh minipci card is hidden.
The instructions take longer to read than it does to actually complete the task....
Thanks,
Justin

Contact intel, they have a slightly newer version of Proset 9 that CapeMayAl found to work nicely. The card is good and will work up to atleast 200-250 yards if you have a clear view of your router.....
I've gotten Asus' wl-120 b/g card to work up to 400-500 yards from my router and although you might say that's better, it's just amplified more and therefore uses more battery life..... and what are the chances anyone with a centrino laptop is going to use their laptop at that distance.... or even have that kind of area they CAN travel in line with their router........ not many.. but that's the only place a higher amplified reciever will help.
Thanks,
Justin

But where in the laptop is this mini pci card located? Can I change it myself?
-
Okey so that should not be the problem. Only is lose the quarantee i'm afraid.
But is the 2200BG card really the problem? Isn't it a bad antenne in the m6v series? So that I not keep this problem with a new better card. -

Not a chance.. the antenna's in the M6 series are great.... basically identical to almost every other Asus model... a pair of antenna go from the card and go up the back of the screen... so when the screen is open, you have one giant antenna......
one is the main and the other is a backup incase the other fails.
The 2200 is also a good card... I doubt it's the card. I was telling someone else the other day I've only seen one of intel's wifi cards fail in two years of selling centrino notebooks.... and that was a physical failure on one of the forum members z71v's I think.
My guess is you're having issues with the intel drivers working consistantly with your router. What router are you using and when was the last time you updated it's firmware?
Like I said, contact intel because they know of this problem and made an update to the proset 9 drivers which aren't released yet but have solved this problem for those who were having it.
Thanks,
Justin

Thanx for your help!
I search the internet and indeed I find a lot of posts about my router. It's a Linksys wireless adsl router and there are a lot of ppl who have the same problem. So I think you are right and it's not a problem of the 2200BG card.
Thanks again. -

Intel proset wireless v 9.0.1.4

thanks for sharing it. Now I use version 9.0.1.9 I quess that's a newer version than this one. What are the differences? Is this version better?
-

You have 1.9... ok.... That version was just a copy that a customer gave to me. He was having the system issue with 9 and that version helped........ I don't know. I know that your problem is driver related.. .whether it's on your laptop or in your router..
Thanks,
Justin

I'll give it a try because now the wireless connection is driving me crazy. But I'm afraid the router is responsible for this problem. I let you know....
-
I appreciate your help! The problem is still there...if the 2200BG card is okey, the antenne is good, the drivers a fine than it's the Linksys router. I will buy a new one..

Try updating the firmware.

I've download all the firmware there is for this router. There is a special beta firmware for this problem but it also doesn't help. I'm afraid buying a new router is the only solution for this problem.

What exactly does that beta firmware tell you it fixes?
Thanks,
