Anybody try these yet?

Good find!
Isn't this too much for a driver ?
-
perhaps a comma is used in German instead of a period. -
I know that but ATI CCC drivers were around ~40MB last time I looked.
-
-
I am doing a download for the drivers currently, will see if it is stable enough for everyday use.
-
Why risk your system for a release candidate 1 driver?
-
7.4 is working fine for me. I'll wait for a final release .. but thanks anyways !
Cheers. -
it's ok it's alright. It's not like RC1 will just crash on me. If it does, i can rollback to the original drivers
Anyway, after launching the file, it will unpack the stuffs needed to install. initally the unpacker's language is native to the website that it was downloaded ( http://asustreiber.de/), but the installer went back to english.
The driver's version is 8.380.0.0, and the Catalyst Control Center's version is 2007.0501.2141.36900. Installation proceeded smoothly, everything was detected correctly (Mobility Radeon X1700). After installation and a reboot, i ran Vista's System Assessment Tool, and the Desktop Performance for Windows Aero became 4.4 (initally 4.3). By the way, this driver is 64bit compatible, as above it was sucessfully installed in Vista Business x64.
I have not tested the gaming part yet, partially due to my school projects. I hate projects
When will 7.5 be released?
edit - CCC has a two new options from the old version.
-under Notebook Panel properties, there is an LCD overdrive option. No idea what it is.
-Notebook Panel properties have the option to preserve aspect ratio for applications (my guess; i selected it and ran PCSX2, it ran at my 640X432 setting, not 640X432 Widescreen stretch mode)
There may be more new options i have missed out. Who knows? -
Day 1/2 of testing - Performance was slightly smoother, in most cases neligilble. Battery life took a hit, within 2 hours my laptop's battery went flat (It can last 2 1/2 hours). Also, instead of blowing out semi-cool air from the exhaust vent, it is now blowing out semi-warm air. I suspect it is the graphic card clock that is unable to clock down despite the CCC powerplay setting set to Max battery life.As of now, the driver is pretty stable but it might be the CCC's powerplay settings. I will be reinstalling the older CCC with the latest driver to see if it improves the battery anomaly.
Tried to install ATi tray tools to clock manually but it failed loading the drivers (x64 signed drivers are required).
performance in F.E.A.R extraction point is a little bit smoother, but as i mentioned above it is neligible. i cannot comment more as i have not tested other titles to give a full review.
For those who wish to have the latest Catalyst 7.5, i will not recommend using this RC1 but instead wait for the final release. But for those brave ones whom (like me) be a beta tester of sorts, or won't mind having your battery percentage indicator drop like a downhill-bound train, install it. -
ASUSTreiber's Mobility Catalyst 7.5 RC2.
Seems like a final release is imminent. Well, i'm downloading RC2 now to see if the driver improved the battery usage. -
I can't get the RC2 to install for some reason. The installer complains that Detection Manager can not be started. I'm using F3JP with X1700 and Vista 32 bit Home Premium. Any suggestions?
Ach so! http://www.asustreiber.de/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?6161
I managed to understand that I should unpack the drivers manually and install then. And it seems to be working! Alles in ordnung -
Do you have any previous catalyst installation exe together in the same folder as RC2? try deleting the previous exe and try again.
By the way, 7.5 RC2's isn't great at all. Was hoping to see a better power management but it's still like RC1. Lets just wait till the final release.
