Im considering getting a battery for the Modular bay on my Asus Z70Va. So far, Im getting around 4.25hrs on the Main battery using wireless internet.
What is the Expected Additional time? Givin that this battery is roughly $120, is it worth the extra cost per $ ??

Depends if you need it...
with the modular bay battery, you should get an additional 2 hours roughly. -

Do this....... divide that by 8 cells... you get almost 32 minutes per cell.
The optical battery is a 6 cell.... which given the same use should then provide 3.2 hours of life....
So your total life should be approaching 7.45 hours. -
who has the best price on one of these Modular batterys. I,ve seen them range from $105-130. Why the such a huge difference in $
-
I got mine at 85 plus tax and delivery its 96.xx, the 6 cell its at a lower power setting of 1.1v instead of 1.6 so you burn more power using it,therefore, only about 2hrs 30mins is max time you will get from it. To use it with main battery total time is 6hrs to 7 max. If you google or pricegrabber for the modular bay battery it can be bought less than 100. I suggest getting if you plan for long trips and like watching movies on hard drives. Remember you are taking away the DVD drive to use the extra battery.
P.S- 120 is for the brand Asus, and cheaper version is generic or not labeled Asus but still works the same. (stats wise) -
You get 4 hours??????
Okay the Z70Va battery is supposed to have a full capacity of 69000mWh, I only get 64920mWh with 5% battery wear.
I haven't had mine for more than 2 months, so what's the deal???
I only get just over 3 hours with battery optimized settings and my screen at half brightness. At full brightness I get less than 3 hours.
I know what you're going to say Justin, but should I try a battery calibration just once more to maybe set it to its original capacity? I've only run battery calibration once. Then I read your suggestions about this procedure and never did it again.

undervolt the CPU?
-
It's already undervolted that is not the issue.
The issue is the degradation of the battery already, even though it is pretty much brand new.
Note the battey's actual capacity of 69000mWh and my full capacity of 64920mWh.
Something went wrong with my first calibration I think, because I interrupted it hehe.
Hope this second calibration does the trick.
It says to adjust screen brightness, should I set it to the lowest or highest or does it not matter?
Cheers,

How does that battery calibration thingy in the bio work anyway? Mine took forever, left it on for 3 hrs.. got bored(impatient).. reboot it and never did it again. >_<
-
Battery Calibration just does a full discharge of the battery. If you're windows battery meter is accurate then you don't need to do it. Like if Windows reports you have 1% battery left and it dies a minute after that then it's accurate and you don't need to calibrate. Battery calibration should take a while, cuz it just sits there discharging the battery then has to charge it back up full.
I've had my Z70Va for four months now, my battery wear is at 5% with 64680 mWHr capacity. I can get about 3:20 with the screen at max battery brightness with everything else power optimized and CPU undervolted.
Have you changed your ATI Powerplay settings? I know the default setting is 'Balanced' between 100% -> 25% battery which consumes more power than the 'Optimal Battery Life' setting. -
Shampoo,
My battery is at 66240, 4% wear (1month old laptop). 1/2 brightness is higher than my setting...at 1/3 brightness u get about 3hrs 30min and at 1/4 or 1/5 u will get ~4hrs. Modular bay is like what i said previously and remember I am using at 1/4 brightness usually. -
Okay thanks for the info
Cheers,
Mike
