Hi
Yesterday i noticed I couldn't change brightness of my screen.
It has 13 levels, but it's like it's "stuck" between 5 and 7 (just a guess).
Brightness at level 13 or 7 is exactly the same.
So if i change profile for example, battery saving, the brightness stays as it is, instead of reducing to level 3 or 4.
Note that fn+ (F5 or F6) (brightness controls) are working properly.
This happens both on AC Power or battery.
Since i don't have much time to search for the cause (software, windows corruption,...) i did the "basic" stuff:
1-Tested with other bios version; didn't work.
2-Applied again the latest bios (2.08 for F3JP); didn't work.
3-From the bios i loaded the manufacturer default options; didn't work.
4-Formatted and reinstalled windows; didn't work.
From what i did i think software problem is excluded.
As anyone had this problem?
Any ideas?
Thank you

Well, if I were you I would have never reinstalled Windows for such a small issue... (given that your FN brightness controls are working)
Did you try updating Power4Gear? Maybe it's at the root of the problem (since it's the one that should change the brightness) -
FN is working meaning that the bar appears and i can go from level 1 to 13, but doesn't work because the brightness is "stuck".
I can't change the brightness of my screen, probably hardware malfunction (the asus support confirmed that might be the cause)
I can't save battery because i can't reduce brightness.
Also my eyes started "burning"...
Sorry if i think this is not a small issue.
Reinstall windows is easier then spending hours installing/uninstalling programs, searching for updates...
And when you restore everything like when you bought your laptop, when everything was working, software issues are eliminated.
I know software is not the problem, maybe some settings in bios or something like that...
Since i have other problems due to the poor quality of the laptop (i'm extra careful, never dropped,...) i guess i'll have to send to repair...
Thanks -
Well you said FN+FX were working... how could I have imagined that you meant they only bring up the OSD for brightness change and not actually change the brightness?
I thought only Power4Gear couldn't change the brightness.
You can try a BIOS update/rewrite before sending it in, just to be sure.
Monitor problem?
