Thank you for directing me to this tool. Here is my (actually my wife's) wish list

c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
d. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook? Mostly surfing, email, photo transfers, Word, Exel, and some video watching. NO GAMING.

Screen Specifics
10) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer? WXGA and WXGA+.
a. XGA = eXtended Graphics Array; 1024x768; This resolution will give you the largest viewable text and images while offering the least amount of screen real estate.
b. SXGA = Super eXtended Graphics Array; 1400x1050; This resolution offers a middle ground between XGA and UXGA.
c. UXGA = Ultra eXtended Graphics Array; 1600x1200; This resolution will give you the smallest viewable text and images while offering the greatest amount of screen real estate.
d. WXGA = Widescreen eXtended Graphics Array; 1280x768 or 1280x800; This resolution offers the same as XGA except that there is more horizontal real estate; 1280 versus 1024. Popular for movie viewing due to support for widescreen.
e. WXGA+ = Widescreen eXtended Graphics Array+; 1440x900; This resolution is offered on 17" widescreen notebooks and is comparable to WXGA in terms of text and icon size versus available screen real estate. Popular for movie viewing due to support for widescreen.
f. WSXGA+ = Widescreen Super eXtended Graphics Array; 1680x1050; This resolution is comparable to SXGA in that it offers a middle ground between WXGA/WXGA+ and WUXGA. Popular for movie viewing due to support for widescreen.
g. WUXGA = Widescreen Ultra eXtended Graphics Array; 1920x1200; This resolution offers the smallest viewable text and images while offering the greatest amount of screen real estate.
11) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? She thinks glossy/reflective, but cannot tell the difference.
Build Quality and Design
12) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? Somwhat. I like the reviews for the Asus, although I have never seen one.
13) How long do you want this laptop to last? 3 years.
Notebook Components
14) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB? 100GB
15) Do you need a DVD, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-R drive? Yes, want DVD/CD RW.
Also, want Wireless (Intel Pro), Card reader, TV tuner would be neat (not a must) and I am not crazy about the WebCamm options, although the family would love to see the kids, and reliability, durability, etc.
Thanks to all for your opinions. I appreciate your knowledge.

I would say W2V or W2J which isnt out yet seems it would fit perfect but its about 2500. so next down i would def say again v6va or v6j it is extremely well built fast, 15in Sxga monitor. if you can afford this pc its about 1900. it really is worth every penny.
But the V6va/j and W2v/j are asus best built nicest looking machines. Their are built on models but they are normaly not as well built still good though. these two are made of aluminum and carbon fiber plastic mix. there is also the A series coming out soon that is a good bang for the buck and it will have a DVI port if thats important to you. But no reviews on those yet so i cant say how the contruction is or screen quality. -
Fujitsu n3530 is worth a look. It has an amazing glossy screen.
-
I think the A6 series sounds perfect in this case...
A6J sounds like a great choice... webcam, glossy screen, 15.4" screen... all the goodies.
If you really do want to "build it"... the Z83v is worth a look. 17" system with lots of goodies -
its really about your price range you know. the built on series are great bang for the buck and they are well built. Do you concider a pcs looks important styling?

Aurora,
I think we think alike. I have begun to weed out some models and have the Z83V and the V6J and the A6J as finalist. Still looking, but good advice.
Thanks -

.... I think you or your wife need to start getting specific because you're comparing apples to oranges to grapefruits here.... -
I agree with Justin. Both are very different systems.
I would get the V6J. It has the best build quality (other than the W2) and very good performance. -
Z83v or A6J gets my vote... flip a coin between the two.
The V6J is great, but lacks widescreen... TV tuner... and the resolution is higher than you have specified. It's certainly the sexiest out of the bunch, but not the right one for you... at least from the details you've given us.
