I think these are software related, but thought I'd post to see if others were running into these.

    1. Sometimes when reconfiguring my network settings the system bluescreens and restarts, typically when doing IPCONFIG /RENEW, etc. So far it only happens when I'm actively messing with settings.

    2. This is a much bigger issue -- unrecoverable standby. My system will go into standby and _sometimes_ won't come out of it at all while plugged into a power source. I have 208 BIOS and I've read the W3J related threads, but I haven't found a solution yet.

That happened to my Acer as well. It has both Bluescreen and not-waking-from-sleep issues. My new W5F seems to suffer less from the latter, but suffers from wireless-related freezing. (I'm planning another clean install tomorrow.)

Hopefully, Vista will solve these problems but I'm not holding my breath.

I have the same problem with my A8jm. I've been mucking with the Power4Gear settings but so far no luck. It's a serious problem becuase I like to leave my machine on when I go to lunch, etc. and it's a real pain to hard reboot each time.

Yes, that's the exact same problem I have. I'm disabling suspension, etc. and I use the Quiet Office mode by default. I'll see how it goes. Do you have USB devices plugged in? Could that be part of the issue? I have a USB keyboard and mouse plugged in at all times.

Interesting.. haven't had these yet, let me try recreating the issues. So these only happen while plugged in right? and only when it goes to standby on its own?

I had the same issue with standby when i first got my machine and i had to keep restarting. Sometimes my machine would come out of standby but the monitor wouldnt. Like i cud tell my machine is running but the lcd was still off.

It seemed to go away by itself, and i dont have it any longer. I dont know what exactly caused it to go away tho.

I have all the latest drivers from asus, except the sound card one. That got my hcontrol to start crashing. removin pro wireless and reverting to older sound card drivers made no difference. So i got a old version of hcontrol working. The pwr4gear and volume buttons work and i dont use the other ones anyways so i dont care.

I'm always plugged in and I never put it into standby, so yeah, for me it happens pretty reliably but so far in each situation it has been:

    - plugged in
    - in Quiet Office mode
    - USB keyboard and mouse plugged in

Only applications typically running are FireFox and PocoMail.

Hey guys, lots of helpful tips in this thread for the W3J, but simply,

Turn off Hibernation in P4Gear profiles, since somehow P4G can't handle hibernation from standby mode.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=57748

I haven't been able to recreate the problem. In Quiet Office mode, set my standby to 1 min and hibernate to 2 mins. It went to standby, I could resume. I left it for 3 minutes and it acts weird (ie, after 3 mins it turns on by itself, then turns off, then on , then off ... like its trying to switch between Standy and Hibernate all the time).. but I could still press the Power button and it starts up again.

Will try some other things later on to see if I get any problems.

I've already turned off Hibernation, but I've now disabled Standby as well, will see if that makes a difference.
