Mayday, mayday, my A6J battery suddenly ceased to work. Hope someone can tell me it's not dead :(

I've been using the laptop on batteries regularly recently and it has been working well, giving over 3 hours on "Presentation" power usage. A couple days ago, after a couple of hours' usage, I plugged it in to charge and it appeared normal, but after a good 6 hours or so, it was still charging (normally, 2 hours would be done). Sensing something wrong, I unplugged the power and tried booting up on battery, but to my horror there was no power. When I try to charge now, the charging light still appears indefinitely but there'll be no power when I try to run on the battery.

I don't think I've done anything irregular in my usage and charging process, and it was working perfectly before my unsuccessful 6-hour charge. What could have caused this and would there be any way to fix it myself? (the service centre is quite a distance away)

I am not harboring much hope, so let me know the bad news if it has to be. Thanks!

If you are still in warranty (1 year for Battery) then you can just have Asus send you a new one. But, I have a felling there is more than this to it. If you have ever seen the Battery Wear thread, I think your notebook fits into it.

Yup i'm still within a year's warranty. Using NHC, my batt appears to be charging but it's staying at 48% after two more hours. And it still won't start on battery alone.

Looks like will have to call ASUS up, thanks for the reply!

Called up ASUS tech support, received email from them in 2 days, posted my faulty battery in on Wednesday evening, and got it back in 6 days.

It's working fine now and I'm happy with their service. Will continue supporting them as long as this replacement battery doesn't die within the next 2 years :D
