I've been reading this forum for a few days now getting ideas and have come to what I think is a good blend of needs vs desires. I'm going for the best blend of display quality, battery life, speed and low price. I will be mainly using it for net surfing, MS office apps and watching DVDs (especially while travelling, hence battery life). I *might* play some single player games on it while on vacation, but I have a dedicated gaming rig at home so gaming performance isn't much of a concern for me. (I just don't want integrated graphics...bleh)
So, here's what I have in mind:

Z71V with a 1.73G 740, CDRW DVD Combo, Intel B/G card (all options at the bottom of the page)
Samsung 40 gig HD http://store.yahoo.com/directron/mp0402h.html
1 gig RAM: http://store.yahoo.com/directron/ocz25331024vso.html
(Going with a 1 gig stick in leu of dual channel since gaming isn't a priority and I might want 2 gigs later for some reason that I can't imagine at the moment...)
Now for the questions. Any comments on the hard drive's power consumption and noise? Can I find a better deal somewhere else? ($1201 before shipping sounds good to me) What is a realistic battery life I can expect while surfing wireless or watching a DVD?
Finally: Am I missing anything? This will be my first laptop build, but I've built many regular systems.
Thanks!

And here I go whoring up my post count...
I shaved off a few bucks by choosing separate CD/DVD & wireless B/G card:
http://store.yahoo.com/directron/90n9q1g1000.html
& http://store.yahoo.com/directron/wm3b2915abgna.html (I spent an extra $.98 to get a/b/g instead of just b/g...)
That has me down to $1197 before shipping (hey, I'm cheap sometimes...lol)
Any comments / things I might have missed?
Thanks,
Kos
