Im going to be including a guide on how to do this in my review but for now just wanted to share my image![]()
Here is the image itself: (its distorted because the bios image is stretched when it is displayed so you have to correct for the aspect change)

Here it is in person, but my camera really messed up the brightness so it got washed out so bad that even photoshop could not fix it.

It adds a little custom charm to your EEE, since its already a very charming device, but also I think including your name or something in there adds a really cool way to help with theft prevention/recovery. Anybody can wipe your hard drive and all your data but I doubt many would know how to change the bios image.
So if you put a little "property of XXXXXXX" in your image it would make selling it nearly impossible without the person knowing it was stolen, and if you had it recovered in a moment without any doubt you could prove to the authorities that its yours.

Nicely done Vicious! Now would it be possible to do that on other laptops?

Yeah any AMI bios will work. The G50V is AMI I think.

Update: I have found how to do even more stuff. Like change the message at the bottom from "Press F2...."
Plus there are two entries that are easy to edit one is the bios release date & version, this is easy to edit to anything you want and another line for OEM data that is not even used.
So you can make a pretty picture of anything you want and then toss in the OEM info line
"property of XXXX, if found please contact [email protected] or call XXXXXXX"
This way its still there but you dont have to unpretty your picture for that information. -
...waiting for the guide...

Heh I see you're having fun with your EEE 1000H. G50V gathering dust on top of the closet?
If I were you, I would keep "property of" on the screen as a theft deterrent, rather than move it to an obscure BIOS field that 0.001% of the user base will know how to access.
Also, there are ways in which you can prevent people from cleaning the hard drive. Like setting up an ATA User and Master password and putting it into Maximum security mode. Then noone will get access to the HDD... Unfortunately most recent BIOSes have very limited ATA security features (user password, mostly). -

No it will be part of the bios post message, just not a part of the splash image is what I was saying. Kind of a good compromise still have the data there for all to see @ every boot but dont have to have it in your image.
I do enjoy the EEE a lot, but I use the G50V almost daily still, its my work machine, while the EEE is the play machine. -
