I want to share with everybody here my disappointment with ASUS F3JP over the 1.5 years I owned it for. :mad2:
1- My first disappointment came a day after buying the notebook. The screen was grainy. It looked like there were sand particles on the screen. I had to live with this for some months until ASUS fixed it with bios release v208.
2- My second big disappointment came 6 months after buying the notebook. One day it just died on me!
    RMA replaced the mainboard.
3- My third disappointment came after about 12 months from owning it. One day the hard disk made a grinding sound on boot up and the dreadful massage came “No bootable media found”. The hard disk was dead!! I was lucky as I do frequent backups. :nah:
4- Fourth disappointment came last week, that is after 19 months from owning this machine. In the morning I plugged in the notebook. It ran only on Battery. Investigating further I found that the power supply adapter was dead. :realmad:
5- Fifth disappointment; I am waiting for it to occur …..:confused2:
I can only say that this is “Rock Solid – Heart touching” notebook built by company claiming to be number one PC hardware manufacturer.

I don't know if anybody else has been that much unlucky with any of ASUS notebooks.

F3 are known to be not so great, especially in the build quality department (in fact, you do not seem to have the cracking case problem which many owners have).

But I think your amount of trouble is simply bad luck (hitting upon a bad unit). It's statistically unlikely for so many things to go wrong with a single notebook. :)

But yeah, sorry about all your trouble...

sounds like you got a lemon there... I've had my share of disappointments with every brand including "premium brand" called Sony, but overall they are all the same

So far I do not have the cracking case problem, but this could come next. :(

The thing is that I am usually using the notebook with external keyboard and external Eizo 1600x1200 display.
Maybe I have not applied too much pressure on the plastic so far that I have not developed the cracks.

But my bad experiences are going to come to an end soon.
I am going to sell this damn notebook on Ebay and buy myself a new one.

I am not sure if I should buy another ASUS notebook or not.
The ASUS M50Vm looks quite tempting.
Can somebody tell me if the M50 series are better in quality or not?

Or maybe I should shift to Thinkpad, but I usually find them expensive with much less features. For example you have to buy docking station for over 150€ in order to be able to use DVI connection. :(

I have been using an ASUS Z70V that I purchased on August 2005. I have not encountered *any* problem with this machine, including the screen, power adapter, CDRW etc. etc.

When I purchased it I have read some reviews saying that the most vulnerable part of a laptop is the power adapter. So I purchased an extra one which still sits in its original package. :)

I'm using one of the cheap F8 series and I am more than satisfied. It should be called Platinum Solid - Heart Reviving.

Yeah, Z70V comes from the Golden Age :) and it was an excellent machine. F8 is also quite reliable.

M50 is newer and we can't give a very final assessment on what its reliability is (the oldest M50Sv machines have roughly have half year+, I believe?). But I haven't seen recurring issues being reported, except the keyboard missing keystrokes trouble.

So after going through the forums, I can say that F3JP is one of the trouble maker notebooks from ASUS. :(
