My G1 stopped working a couple months ago and I was kind of too lazy to send it back to ASUS to fix it. One day my dad's technician came to check it out and he told me that my GPU/Motherboard may have been fried and that I should send it back in. After reading the forum a bit, I found out that people with a G1S had a problem similar to that. Most of them had an issue where their motherboard was irreplaceable so they received a new G50vt-x5.

My question really is, will my G1 also be replaced by the G50vt-x5 when I turn it back into ASUS out-of-warranty?

This is a dilemma for me because I am about to buy a new laptop and I don't want to buy a Dell XPS 16 if I will get practically the same thing with a G50vt-x5. This way I can just buy a portable laptop with long battery life and keep my heavier laptop at home.

maybe or maybe not. If you turned it in earlier, you probably wouldve gotten a replacement but i've heard they've got new motherboards now so they will probably just replace it. make sure you're still covered by the warranty.

I bought my laptop 3 years ago so I don't think I'm covered by warranty anymore, but I haven't seen a single post about a G1 issue. All the GPU issues I've seen concern the G1s. Maybe I just can't search correctly ;x
