I have bought this laptop about 2 months ago and occasionally, the laptop

screen has these grey lines blink horizontally. It happens so fast and it

happens once in a while (imagine when you first turn on your old TV and it

has those grey lines sweeping across the whole screen).

Is this software or hardware related? I used to install DOX

Driver but now using the stock driver and it won't solve the issue. The idle

temp. of my GPU is 61 C and it never goes further than 82 at full load. Does

it has something to do with the fact that I adjust the screen contrast to 100%

using Nvidia Control Panel? I will certainly have a problem bringing this laptop

back to BB coz' now I'm living in Thailand. Any help would be of greatly

    appreciated.

No I can't. It's because the problem happens so fast, it just does that for 1-2 seconds at most.

My old Dell Inspiron 9300 had some lines blink, until they become permanent after some time. It end up being a know defective LG LCD problem with the Inspiron 9300 series, but the graphics card was failing at the sametime so I'm not sure which gave in faster.

I would suggest trying different video drivers for starters.

But yes, it can also be LCD failure or GPU failure. Do the lines have a "digital" feeling (e.g., well-defined pixel-level lines), or "analog" feeling (e.g., wider bands with edges that flow via a gradient into the background color?) "Digital" faults are usually due to GPU/GPU drivers, whereas "analog" faults are due to the LCD cabling or LCD. If cabling, the effects may change as you tilt the screen towards/away from you.

If you would be able to take a picture/movie of the screen during the problem that'd be great.

I have also bought an Asus G71 two months ago and I'm affraid I have the same problem than you have.
At first, it only appeared when I was watching a full screen video. But now the lines appears at any time.
According to what you said I believe it's a screen problem. Bad :(
