OMG ... It is gorgeous!!! I got my asus on Tuesday from Geared2play but I could not open it by thursday because I had to study for an exam. It was hard to wait until yesterday to open it and my friends insisting to see it. Like Shampoo said before, the pictures don't make justice. The look, feel, and touch of it. Everything was simple and perfect. So far, it is working like a charm. No red ghosthing, no noise, and no heat. I will try to test the output devices this week to see if i have any problem. But I am loving it so far. Thank you geared2play and asus rules.

I got mine today. Pretty impressive build quality. Leaps and bound better than the Sager I had previously.

I have bluetooth and hear no creaking. I'm really quite impressed with the solidity of the Asus. I hate to dog on the Sager I had recently but it felt like a plastic kid's toy compared to the z70va. On top of that the Asus is lighter than my 14" iBook.

Hey Shampoo, I had my asus z70va for not more than a week now. I did asked questions regarding the z70va since October but I did not buy it because of red ghosting, noise, heat issues, and etc that came along. After holding back for so long, I finally got my asus z70va without any problem for red ghosting, noise, and heat. I should not have any problem if I take it to library. Of course, I m not using it for intense gaming yet but soon. I will test for output and battery this week through.

PS: I have bluetooth and no creaking at all.

****, maybe it's the non-bluetooth versions that creak. I really, really hope that's not the case.

I'm SURE they won't switch to a bluetooth unit for me, since it's a completely different machine. :(

JUst like to add. They all have the same noise, heat and creaking. The difference in oppinion depends on the user. I like to say to each his own. Some of use are very picky and sensetive some are not as much. after some use and some travel your notebook will inevitably start to creak louder and in more places. That is inevitable. The only notebook i have seen that does not do it is the w3. smaller plastic notebooks dont really creek. I believe carbon composite construction is probably the source of creaking. The creaking comes fromt he joints. Has nothing to do with tightening the screws. It does have something to do with humidity and temperature. I really dont care. Creaking is not a big deal. most notebooks creak.

My M6000 (Same chassis as the Z70Va for those who are not awared of), both palm rest creaks too. A LOT. It's not minor and certainly not acceptable. This occurred after about a month of use and not even started to bring it around just like what a laptop is for. I think this is a common problem for this particular chassis. I've seen people comment on this issue before I made my purchase but of course, since there are some many others praising it's superior quality, I thought it was only a very specific problem.

The source of this creaking sound is from the abrasion of the palm rest piece with the side trim of the laptop. I've taken it apart but have no success in fixing it. It's probably just an inherited design flaw that some might experience.

BTW, Shampoo, does your Z70Va's LCD panal latch sounds...flimsy when closing the lid? Mine does and it gave me a very bad first impression after hearing experience of others on this chassis.

I ve had the m6 come back from iraq after years of abuse obviously creaking. If i had to describe creaking i would say its extremely trivial to barely noticeable. You really have to concentrate on it for it to offent you. But like i said to each his own. Some of us are very picky some less picky. Out of all z70va we ship almost all are creaking after some use. Thus far the complaints i ve had can be counted on my fingers which means 99% of users really dont care. There is nothing you can do about creaking. I do belive its an inherent issue with the type of material used nothing to do with the construction. You will find the same with all m6 based chassis and the same with m5 based chassis. Basically all asus carbon composit designs. Get over it. :)

I had creaking on my old M6...but ONLY on the right side of the palmrest near where the latch goes in. However, I never really noticed it because I never rested my palm on the palm rest...(it's bad for you, ergonomically). But yes, if I did press down on the palm rest edge near that place, it did creak. Left side - no creaking at all.

Yes creaking does exist and will inevitably get worse as the laptop ages, but in my case it's not just creaking, it's a defect as the palm rest and the bottom part of the laptop do not sit flush and is sitting a bit off as if something is preventing it from sitting flush and is pushing it up.

So it moves in and creaks. Yes my left palm rest creaks if I PUSH down, but its construction is solid, no space between the palmrest and the base.

As for the latch sound, I don't know. My previous lid/screen sounded pretty much the same as it does with my new unit. Just a plasticy sounding *snap*. Actually very satisfying since it's so prominent. One weird thing is I have to push down and make sure it's latched when I use my Shaggy Mac microfibre screen protector in place. Before with my old unit it just closed as usual, I do'nt know why this is the case this time. Oh well.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Wow .. this creak sounds really annoying. Is the creak constantly (continuous)? After spending time and money, I am sure nobody wants to have any problem with their new laptop, me too. I hope I don't get to the point of being distracted or annoyed by it.

Just don't concentrate on it. I can FEEL mine, that's why it's sooooooooo annoying. It gives in and that is horrible.

I've also noticed that my battery does not fit properly or something because just below the touchpad the base lifts off the battery; it moves when I lift.

When the battery is not inserted it is solid.

    Blah.

Yes, I've sent it in for repair, but all they did was just disassemble and reassembe everything, which seemed to do the trick, but that was my stupidity as I only checked the thing for a brief second while I was in store. This was Asus' doing, not my reseller. I will send it in once more when I have the time. I'm in the middle of writing papers and doing programs for school so I need my baby.

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Haha, thanks Flavs83.

Actually even with all this crap, I'm still extremely pleased with my laptop because it's so ORIGINAL. You don't see a lot of laptops out there like any of Asus' models.

The screen size is great, the resolution, the price, quality, performance, style, package (bag, mouse, etc.).

    You gotta love it.

Plus I'm really used to getting crappy products. Crappy meaning something great that has defects because I'm just unlucky like that.

I have an LG F700B 17" CRT monitor which right after getting it had to be RMA'd because it was all messed up as soon as I turned it on. When I got the replacement, which was a refurb', I thought everything was normal, but guess what, it was a defect too, but I'm still using it because my warranty expired.

    *sigh*

What are you going to do right? Riiiiiight, I also went through 4 Asus A7N8X Rev 2.0 motherboards. My fault right? Riiiiiight, too bad the batteries on these boards were bad, and I had 4 in my hands that just happened to have the bad batch of CMOS batteries. I replaced the battery the fourth time around after reading about it in some forums. After that everything was A-Okay, she's still up and running strong.

Hrmm, what else. That's about it so far for computer related products.

All in all, if I can get everything the way it's supposed to be then I'll be SUPER happy with my laptop. Even now I'm happy, but not SUPER happy.

    Cheers,
    Mike
