Probably; both the recovery partition and the recovery CDs have the same content I believe, that being said, there is a lot of crap you dont need.

Im not sure if there is, but I would imagine there is a guide here on NBR somewhere that tells you all of the core drivers that you need, since when you use the driver CD your laptop comes with, you will install A LOT of bloatware along with the drivers by using the Autorun.

For many answers regarding the G50, check the Owner's Lounge in the Reviews&Owner's Lounges subforum. First post in that lounge contains links to many other useful threads.

Brun, im surrprised you got the x1, but its still a great laptop. I was sure you were gonna end up with the G51.. I picked mine up yesterday with a razer mouse and the crysis series.. ive been playing hours of crysis so far and no issues, temp seems ok - downloading progs. to check temps now - on high settings with one or 2 tweaked to medium (gasp!) and no AA. it still looks killer awesome though.

    anywho, 'grats on the purchase.

i was going to get the g51 but my parents didnt want to give some more money so i got the g50

AFAIK the difference is not worth it so the g50 will be good enough

    thnaks man

I got the X5 refurbed for $750 and I must say, you'd never know the difference. The only thing is a little sticker on the box that says "Refurbished," everything else is exactly like new.

well thats good news for the refurbished items i guess, but im still always hesitant to get them. Yeah G51 isnt a huge up over the X1, but the GPU is a lot nicer obviously. and i just ended up throwing in 400 bucks myself lol.

You can skip out on the fresh install for the G50VT because as it is its pretty light. Just kill some of the programs preinstalled that you don't need.

I would suggest that you do a Windows 7 upgrade though.

And refurbs FTW. I know people that wouldn't every buy refurb. Dunno, maybe they think they're "too good" for refurbs, but the damn things work the exact same way and look the same so whats the big deal? Ebay is the best place to get refurb electronics too because you get a huge discount on warranties from SquareTrade through EBay. I've bought a few ST warranties in the past and only had to use one of them. They were very good.

The Zalman NC-2000 is what i use and it lowers the temps around 10C under load. Be sure to do a GU burnin test with Furmark or 3dmark running consecutive loops to detect any possible GPU issues. I have th X-5 but there nearly the same. Any questions feel free to PM me.
