Reading through the posts here when I was waiting for my laptop to be repaired, I thought "no, it won't happen to me". Of course it did, 6 weeks to replace a faulty power supply!
Finally I have the laptop back and it won't even detect the HD. How dare they be so slack! Switching on the laptop for one second would have made it very clear it was not in working condition!

    Buyer Beware of Asus!

Ps; if someone has a magic tip for getting bios to detect Hds please tell me, otherwise it will be another 6 week wait.

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your experience.

Secondly, you should see if your laptop's BIOS recognize HDD first. If not, reconnect HDD.

Let me know how it turns out :). Also, what is the model, as well as when you purchased it?

Cheers for the reply, I have already disconnected and reconnected the hd, however bios is still not picking it up. The laptop is a A6TC bought 1 year 4 months ago.

I swapped the hd with another laptop, it worked in the other laptop and the other hd didnt work in the Asus. This implies a bios or motherboard problem. The motherboard was replaced by Asus when it was fixed, so that amazes me. Could it be a loose connection or could a bios upgrade possibly help? Any suggestions?

i personaly think its IDE/ SATA problem alot of people dont know what they have. Most Resellers just tell you the size and speed.. so when you upgrade your like @#)!(@)#( ... dont work good luck

Looks like an IDE to me, and I think its 5400 rpm. I didnt upgrade, it was in repairs , they changed the motherboard, nothing else.

Yesterday I managed to switch the laptop on, it seems to eratically detect the hard drive, if you take it out and put it back in. However it always bluescreens after half an hour.

It recommends I take out any new hardware, pretty difficult when the only new thing is the motherboard!!
