On my Asus UX21e Laptop.
Charger plugged in.
Wanted to listen to some music.
Plugged headphone jack in, but accidentally tapped it into the usb port
No pressure or force, just touched the inside of the USB port with the headphone pin.
Laptop shut off IMMEDIATELY.
Will not turn on again.
Looks dead.
Is there any quick fix?
Is it gone?
Edit: just saw another guy with same experience on a different Asus

You may have triggered a short protection, try powering down the whole machine (power cord out, battery out, cmos battery if you can get to it) and leave it for a while before trying to turn it on again.

Yeah the link in my first post indicates a battery out / back in could fix it,
but the UX21e has a fixed battery, can't do that myself without opening it up.
So I have been forced to book into warranty repair -

What a bummer! I wouldn't think the headphone plug would cause a short that easily just by brushing up against a USB pin, but metal against metal after all.
Your headphones still work though, right? -
That is scary, I always plug in my headphones in the dark, does it happen to all zenbooks? The jack is right next to the port.

It's normal behavior, yes. Shorting out a USB port should force the machine off. Typically you have to remove the battery and ac adapter to do an EC reset. No need to CMOS reset. In the case of the zenbook I've never gotten actual confirmation of how you do it, but holding the power button down for 30-60 seconds is one suggestion I've seen.

2 other asus owners who had same problem, so be careful.
mine is booked in for repair under warranty.
asus zenbook battery is non removable & holding down power button 60 seconds didn't work
My UX21E laptop DIED, just by touching the USB port with a headphone pin
