I've got exactly 3h with wifi on, bt on + screen on 1/2-1/4 + web browsing+word processing. Typical work. And about games and movies - don't have any complaints. What piss me off is that sound is not enough loud.
EDIT. Hehe, I didn't know the word - "wobbly"but now I know. So...it's bull...it. I carry laptop all around my house and the battery is very good placed, there is no loose or something. Besides there are two locks so no worry.

Mastha can you please put two firefox windows side by side and take a pick of the NBR Asus forums to judge how well two windows fit please? I think that would validate my desire for the W3J
-
Great job Mastha212. Really good idea to put two sceens together to try an answer the viewing angle question.
What I'd really like to see now is the same thing from people who dislike the viewing angles of thw w3j, with commentary on why the screen they placed next to the w3j is better. -
Good to know that the battery is not "wobbly" like others have said. As for the sound.. when turned up all the way high.. are you able to hear it when there are other sounds going on or when people are talking in the room? or is it really low?
-
Just a quick comment on volume - My W3v wasn't the loudest thing, either, but after installing WMP11 Beta the other night, the volume seemed to increase dramatically! When I first hit play on a music file, I almost jumped. I'm curious if anyone else has tried it w/ the W3v/W3j?
-
But one of my pcs is a z63a with the same screen so i know its great for most uses. -
THis is the W3V screen which is the same as w3j Someone took these pics like a year ago. Now what you see isnt light leakage its poor viewing angle. Notice there is no way to get an even black throught the screen. notice only in the center you get real black now when watching a movie the center looks fine. But top and bottom are more white so the colors will inverse.
-
@ Tay : don't have Firefox but I guess Opera suits as well
. Your wish is an order
@ Ledzepp14 : maybe it's not very quiet but not loud either, it may leave something to desire
@ SRD : maybe I'm wrong but I think that screen in W3j is better than in W3v, I saw those pictures and I can tell you that during booting there is no such "white" screen, I mean black is not washed...or maybe I have to just clean my glasses -
pictures will enhance the problem because photos always showed up lighter. I just tried taking a video of my z63a but i couldnt get it to look like it does in person it made it look worse. And i really dont want to make it worse than it is. They really are the same screen. it doesnt turn white. I have even certain wallpaper where i cant get the colors even the middle will look fine but the top will kinda inverse the colors. But have you tried movies yet. Or go to divx.com and download the sharks tale trailer i know on certain parts it will show what im talking about. again the screen is fine for most uses i use mine alot.
-
IT doesnt really matter if you like the screen then who cares.

Hey SRD,
I own one and I know exactly what you are talking about. Thus the messing with contrast and drivers to see if i can minimize the effect. Its very mild and at about 105 degrees open the image is perfect (from my height/sight level), but any less or any more the image quality noticably suffers. I think in the previous photos, its hard to demonstrate the effect because the screen is by no means unreadable/unusable. Its just that at the optimal angle the text/color is so sharp tilting even slightly makes a big impact.
My w5 doesnt have such a significant change, then again its alot shorter in height.
I dont know how sensitive ppl are to this, so i dont know how much effect it may have on users in general. Just wanted to let you know that your not the only person noticing. I use a dell 2005widescreen for desktop which im also using as reference. -
maSTHa212 that’s a really good 06 score. I'm not sure if my desktop with the 6800 Go gets that high. I will have to try it later.
I'm pretty much decided on the W3j, but I'm just stalling a couple more weeks hoping the price might drop a bit.

At the moment I'm copying my stuff to other computer cause I want to swap HDD, Corsair ram is already in
. With faster disc maybe I can break 2,5k in 06
Will see. And of course stay tuned for little review of Seagate Momentus 5400.3
-
Cool so your going to put in a faster HD? Is the current one 4200RPM? I'm not 100% sure... but I don't really think a faster HD will have in impact on your score in 3dmark. The load times will be slightly faster though. And the Corsair RAM you put in is it 1GB or 2GB's? And is it 667mhz?
-
HDD : 5400 Seagate Momentus 5400.3 (previous Hitachi K120 4200rpm)
RAM : 1x1GB 667 (instead of 2x512 533, I want to have open slot for future upgrade, now I don't need more than 1GB) -
Do you see really any speed difference with the faster RAM? Could that have made the 30 marks of difference in 3dmark06? And its too bad with 1x1GB 667 no dual channel. Are you going to throw the Hitachi into an external case?

Ok, I will post it here. A-lit wrote me a PM with question about OCing X1600. And I was wondering : why I don't have problems at all while others just can't OC their cards. And I guess here is the funny part : I use ATI TOOL while others have ATI TRAY TOOL, that's the diffrence, it is NOT the same. Find my advaices about OCing and use ATI TOOL!! It will work for sure!! Good luck.

hey, im gonna buy a w3j but I thought the price would go down slightly on May 28th b/c of Intel price dropping the T2300-T2500 in conjuntion with the release of the T2600; but so far I haven't seen a drop. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks

rewqis, yah when price drops occur, ASUS just tends to give rebates than price drop their ensemble units. Kinda sad, but that's how it is.
You would have to wait close to 1 full year before you see prices drop by even 100-200 dollars in their ensemble lines.
Thanks,
