Hey guys. I was trying to reinstall my OS today because some nvlddmkm.sys kept crashing and locked my G1S into a cycle. As soon as I logged into Vista, both cores were pegged at 100%. I could not do anything because the system practically froze. I was able to get into safe mode and uninstall the Nvidia drivers and the freezing stopped.

I backed up all my files and wiped the drive to a clean slate to make sure the reinstall would go smoothly. Upon reboot, I was able to get into my bios t change the startup to the cd drive. The screen flashed after I saved and then it went blank. I could hear the drives spin up and see the OLED display turn on, but the LCD stayed blank. I turned off the notebook, waited a bit and tried to turn it on again. All the lights turn on and drives spin up, but the LCD stays blank.

I tried replacing the ram, but that didn't work.

Do you think my notebook is dead? If so, how do I go about the warranty process? It's only been 11 months since I bought my G1S. Has anyone else sent their G1S under warranty and if so how was your experience?

Thanks for your help guys. I'd really appreciate it. I have a lump in my throat right now. :(

Try draining out all power from the notebook....by removing all sources of power, such as battery, usb devices, AC, etc. and then hold down the power button for 20 secs....it will reset the BIOS settings too....!!

I tried the reset mentioned above and I also tried the BIOS reset button on the back of the G1S. Nothing worked. The lights turn on and the drives spin up, but the screen stays blank.

There is a good chance that the CPU is dead....!!
the symptoms you are talking about normally occur when an incompatible or damaged CPU is installed on the motherboard....!! I am not very sure..but cant figure out anything else..!! It could be the GPU as well....best you return it under warranty....!!

If you're located in the US or Canada, you should request an RMA and send it in for repairs. The turnaround time is about 1 week and Asus customer service in North America is among the best in the industry.
From your observations, it sounds like a faulty GPU more than anything else. Asus CS would take care of that easily :)

nvlddmkm.sys is a file from the graphic card, i think that is a GPU problem.. or the LCD is bad connected.

in this image you can see the LCD Conectors.

Well, I contact ASUS Notebook support this morning. They said that I have to go through technical support from Xoticpc since I bought my laptop from them. Has anyone else been told something similar?

I'm a bit annoyed today since the only other system I have access to is one with an old geforce mx card in it. :( Everything is so slow.

If you're located in North America, then that's odd that Asus is asking you go through Xoticpc. Just tell them you want to RMA your notebook and have them repair it for you since it's under the manufacture warranty. Btw, did you register your notebook with asus? You need to register your notebook within the first 60 days from your purchase date in order to receive the free 1 year accidental warranty. If you didn't then you're only covered with the 2 year international warranty.

I registered my notebook the first week I got it. I bought it before the 1 year accidental damage protection promotion. I actually extended my 2 year warranty to 3 years because I expect to have the G1S for at least 3-4 years.

I believe you have to go through Xoticpc for warranty because you may "customized" it before it was shipped to you. Therefore Xoticpc will cover 1 year warranty for you since the purchase date.

As for diagnostic, I think you may have corrupted the BIOS when you changed it. I also recommend you sending in the laptop for completely diagnostics and repair.

    Hope this works out :)
