I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, but it may be a problem with the screen. The laptop boots up (or at least i think it does), but the screen never comes on. I took out the hard drive, and turned it on, and not even the "no hard drive" warning came up. It doesn't make sense though...since the laptop was working in the morning.

Anyone have ideas on what the problem may be?

BTW, this happened a couple of weeks ago, and I have tinkered with it for a while to no avail. I did buy a new 120W adapter for it after the old one literally exploded

To test whether or not the card is dying plug the laptop into an external monitor. If the image is distorted or fuzzy or non-existent on that then most likely it is a GPU failure. It is known issue that the 8600M GT can die 18 months to 2 years into its life in the asus G1S and C90S.

Test your GPU with an external monitor as King of Interns suggested. I also suspect it's a failed GPU. However, if you notebook works perfectly with an external monitor, it's likely that the inverter has become loose.

You GPU probably is coming to the end of his life ( well maybe not but its a common issue, unfortunately, something about these cards being built with near end of life electronic components or bad design engineering). I had this issue, inicially they were just scrambled pixels on the dark blacks when i was seeing pictures, after 3 or 4 days it got worst, suddenly crashed and stripped lines all over and srambled caracters in DOS mode and during POST. Now the screen never turnes on, not a sign of existence but the computer boots still. It had been working flawlessly during a year and a half, it all happened suddenly and i am no overcloker. This is due i think to the memory modules from the GPU card being corrupted or burned ( unrepairable by practical means ) . I have setup an RMA, and i hope they will exchange whatever they need to exchange to make the laptop functioning again without me having to pay a nickle, after all its still under warranty, they come to pick up and deliver the notebook at my address.
