Originally I was going to get the HP Dvt5 until I stubbled across this forum.

Now I'm pretty sure the G50-A1 would be the right choice, but should I consider any other brands?

I want to make sure before I pull the trigger.

G50V rocks. Asus rocks. The warranty alone should be reason to go Asus over HP. Not even to mention the better build quality and customer service. My vote is for Asus, and I'm proud to say I'm bias about this as well, for obvious reasons.

I got mine from GenTech PC http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=G50V-A2&Category_Code= and I would definitely buy from them again, so they have my recommendation for a reseller to purchase from.

Also if the orange has you wondering, I've said this a couple of times now: It does not stand out nearly as much as it does in the pictures. It compliments the black well, and it is a gaming notebook, it is not supposed to look black business like, it is supposed to look like a beast that will take a beating.

Dazman, if you want suggestions from other brands as well I can move the thread to the What Should I Buy forum. :) In this forum, people will understandably be biased towards ASUS.

Im pretty un-biased because I am a reviewer and look at other brands also, but I am more knowledgeable about Asus than any other brand. So even if all of us were un-biased chances are we do not know as much about competing products.

I liked the new Sager and also I was looking at one of those Dark Smiley machines too, but when I broke them all down into parts the G50V-A1 still gave me way more for my money. Thing is the other 2 computers I was looking at came with a 8800 or higher.

I think the G50V is the only notebook so far that I have seen that does a good job of filling that gap between multi-media or netbook and high end gaming. It lets you do gaming to a lesser extent with all of the goodies for a very good price.

I cant wait to get Warhammer Online going on this baby, if it plays that game good which I am sure it will then I am set for the next 2 years.

Funny you should mention the Sager.

    Sager Notebook 8660 Qty: 1
    15.4" WSXGA+ Glossy LCD (1680x1050) Qty: 1
    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz (T9400) Qty: 1
    2048MB (2GB) DDR3 1066MHz | Two DIMMS (1024 x 1024) Qty: 1
[No Intel Turbo Memory] Qty: 1
NVIDIA 9800M GT with 512MB DDR3 Video Memory Qty: 1
    320GB l 5400RPM I SATA II Qty: 1
    8X DVD±R / RW / 4X + Dual Layer Drive with Software Qty: 1
    Intel 5300AGN Wi-Fi Link Qty: 1
Built in 10/100/1000 (1Gpbs) Fast Ethernet / LAN Network Card Qty: 1
    Built-In Bluetooth Module Qty: 1
(No Accidental Protection Policy) Qty: 1

I was just looking at this one, but warranty would be a problem here in Canada.

I keep finding myself coming back to the G50.

yeah like I said it looks pretty on paper but when I broke it down into a parts and price vs performance comparison it was not as good as the g50, also it seems to be plauged by heat issues like most other 15" high end gaming computers... I was reading up on that just within the last hour.

The G50V is super super cool running, I have said that in my review and that means longer life for the product and less issues to worry about.

I was reading about the heat issues as well.

I think you're spot on with your assessment.
