Thanks to this site, I purchased A6jc on Monday and got it on Tuesday. Until last week I didn't even heard of ASUS!

A6Jc looks very nice and feels solid. It has a glossy screen...I didn't have any choice over it but kind of happy that I got this instead of Matt.

So far my only complaints are that there's no firewire port. I thought '1 x IEEE 1394 port (4pin)' was a firewire port....but I guess this is my fault as I didn't know the difference. T.T

Another thing is the touchpad. It doesn't seem as smooth as my old Samsung laptop. I feel a bit of resistance when I am using which is rather annoying.

And lastly my " button and @ button are misplaced. When I press " button it types @ and vice versa.

But otherwise I am very happy.

It's sooooooooooooooo quiet!!! I am actually quite shocked that it's this quiet.

It gets warm but it's still comfortable and the keyboard feels nice as well.

I still need to spend some time to get used to Windows XP (I prefer 2000 or ME...I think XP gets too many folder errors.) and the laptop itself but glad I bought this one.

Reading 'The ASUS Notebook FAQ' was really helpful as well because I didn't know that much about the ASUS brand.

I guess I'll do the Satisfaction Poll very soon

    Thats awsome man! :D

Glad you are enjoying your A6Jc, i really like mine.

About the keyboard, I have no trouble so mabye its a keyboard layout setting in windows? Try messing with that and see what happens.

I agree the laptop is almost silent but it can get a little hot on the right hand side of the keyboard (above the HD).

I would normally ask for pics but seeing as how i actaully have this laptop i dont think there is any need. Plus I posted pics of mine a while ago in this forum :D

edit: I thought IEEE1394=firewire? I googled it and got this.

You're back in business - 1394 *is* firewire :D (the name "firewire" was a marketing thing from sony or apple when it first came out, as I recall). The connectors on the cords come in different pin sizes (4/6)... depending on what you're hooking it up to, you'll either need a 4/4 or 4/6 patch cord - most camcorders have 4pin 1394 out.

Hey, Juz Follow ATI..very nice to meet you~

So 1394 is firewire....thanks, radditz and ClearSkies. Learning new things everyday!!

Well, now I know (little too late) that the firewire I need is 6 pin.
I've always been bad with numbers!!

I am just glad that A6Jc has a pc card slot ;)

Yep, IEEE1394 is Firewire alright. Firewire is the name coined by Apple before the standard was ratified by IEEE.

If you have a standard 6 pin cable then all you need is an adaptor.

Or an actual 4 pin to 6 pin cable may be easier to handle.

As you may notice, it's sometimes called type A to type B, similarly to USB. Unforunately, you'll need an external power source as 4 pin firewire doesn't supply power to the device. You'd have to look, I don't know if there's a 4 pin to 6 pin adapter which splices in an external power source.

TedJ and Ethyriel, thanks a lot for suggestions!

I already have a 6 pin firewire card (adaptor) from my old laptop.

I was hoping I wouldn't need to use it on my new laptop...but well I'll live :)
