So, after finally paying off the $1000 I spent for my Gateway P-6860 FX, bad luck came my way and destroyed it. Luckily I did major backup before it happened, so I didn't lose much in the way of data. But $1000 long gone...ouch...
So, I needed something new to satisfy my PC gaming itch. Something strong but affordable, sort of like the Gateway I had. And that's when I found it.
The ASUS G Series G51VX-X1A from Newegg.ca. An Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53GHz, 15.6" 1920x1080 screen, 4GB RAM, 320GB 7200RPM HDD and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M. For $1450.
I fell in love, and bought it. After a bit of waiting to get it, I set it up like I usually do and installed a couple of games on it. And I was blown away. Crysis ran with no problem when set to 1440x900 resolution, Shadows & Shaders High, everything else Very High. The Witcher had problems on the Gateway, but all of that's gone now with everything maxed at 1920x1080. And the RE5 Benchmark ran perfectly at 1440x900 resolution, DX10, 2xAA and everything else set to max, getting about 40-60FPS during gameplay and around 30-40FPS during cutscenes.
While the Gateway was good to me, I'm glad I got this machine. It's perfect, playing games so easily and so well. It's worth the $1500, but I wish it got to me sooner considering I paid $50 for UPS Expedited...
